Yep. Lots of dtm, supergt, blancpain influence for sure. I have been doing some CFD analysis as well. Pretty cool stuff if you're into aero.

what are you using, solidworks ?

djtodd 02-20-2015 09:12 AM

i used 3dsmax for the modeling (just because I'm confortable with it) and openfoam for the CFD.

For the aero nerds or anyone else who is curious...

Even with the wing, the nismo produces lift at stock height. Drag is pretty ugly too. Especially when you remove the oem exhaust.

http://www.the370z.com/members/djtod...rrible-too.png

The base and sport packages are much worse. Substantial lift at speed.
I don't have a pic, but after lowering an inch or so, the nismo does produce negative lift (downforce) and drag comes down a fair amount as well.

Here's a better render of what I'm shooting for.
Of course Its always much easier to design on paper, but I have the splitter, canards, hood, and wing pretty much done as shown. Working on the diffuser and undertray now.

http://www.the370z.com/members/djtod...83-render1.jpg

Here's two studies of that design. The exhaust will exit near the rear axle, and be blown over the diffuser.

http://www.the370z.com/members/djtod...rev3-front.jpg

http://www.the370z.com/members/djtod...-rev3-rear.jpg

The major item that I am not taking into my studies is the pressure generated by the wheel/tire rotation.
Frankly I'm just not good enough at openfoam, although I am venting the front fenders and providing reliefs for the rear, so it shouldnt be too much of an overall impact.

At 120mph, this setup should produce well over 1000lbs of downforce with around ~230lbs of drag, depending on the rake of the car, splitter length, and wing angle

I made the front splitter with one set of slotted holes, so that I can adjust its length from 3-6". Simulations are all well and good, but this should help dial in the balance.

I also went with the Aeromotions wing. If you've never read up on them. Check it out. Their stuff is no joke.

This is the wing I went with.
Here's 900lbs of downforce visualized...

It's a beautiful piece.

great man... looks like a very serious project and i like that a lot... its not just making look great... its something that works! Keep doing that great work my friend! i wish you luck on your project

Thanks! The nice things is, all of the crazy aero (minus the wing) can be removed in just a few minutes to put it back in street trim.

I'm using all dzus fasteners, so its all super easy to pull off.

Damn thats great hahaha!! but if you dont use your car as a Daily ... you can leave it with all the Aero... looks fcking great in my personal opinion

Oh HELL ya!!!! Nice work bro.

jaytirbhaw 02-20-2015 12:07 PM

nice work, are you an engineer?

Spec Jay 02-20-2015 01:15 PM

Last I heard from Aeromotions they dont sell the base anymore. Do they have them again?

djtodd 02-20-2015 01:29 PM

Must. They may not sell the stratosphere (17"). I got the 12". Arrived in less than a week.

I can put you in touch with the guy I purchased through if you're interested.

Not by trade, though I majored in aeronautical years ago.

konsta 02-20-2015 01:44 PM

This is gonna be awesome!

djtodd 02-20-2015 01:45 PM

Ok I couldnt take that crappy render. A better one :)

Your work is amazing and I love the functionality of it all. Will be unveiling at ZDAYZ????:tup::tup:
