now on the other hand my poor little Civic, it takes a beating. :shakes head: I forget it is not my Z (just an underpowered 2 cousin twice removed) so I flog it, a lot. It responds as best it can and takes me safely home in the snow and sleet and rain and cold. I should show it more respect. sigh. It just doesn't compare and I have no patience....spring is coming:excited:

Miss March! I did not realize this lovely shot was yours. It was my first choice. It must be nice to have four seasons beauty wise. Not for Z driving though.

Note edit on my above post.

While driving home the other day, I was in a zone where setting the cruise control at 50 MPH would work fine.

I slowed as I came up behind a Mercedes S550, whatever that is, when suddenly, a small cloud plume came out the exhaust and he rocked (wiggled) his rear end a bit, and took off. I am still under 50 so I follow him. I keep seeing these tiny cloud plumes as he nails it.

For a 370Z it is like nothing. For a Merc S550 it was on the ragged edge. This goes on for a half mile when I turn off to go to my house and the guy leads me home. He waits for me to open the garage door and then gets out of his car. It is a CHP Lieutenant who likes me, and was driving this way for my benifit (with his 12 year old daughter). I said thanks but still wonder what benifit he thought he'd sent my way, but having one cop friend is OK.

I hope you all had a good Valentines. I have a Valentines story but that is for later.

Yesterday it was 72 degrees* and I took the Jag to work. Immediately I was stopped by some tree/road work flagger. While I waited out the time, a Mustang Cobra 500, blue, with stripes stops behind me. I am thinking ahead as to where I will pull over and let this guy go.

When the flagger turns the sign to slow we do. Past the work were a few turns, the old XKE still maneuvers well. The Mustang just fell away and my disgust level climbed.

It even turns out when I complained to my gal about this idiot, she said I know. I was behind the Mustang. :icon17:

I awoke this morning feeling like I needed more sleep. Six hours later I feel the same. It is an aloof feeling.

So when I drove the Z this morning I had a light grip on the wheel and was moving along at a good clip. I normally place my car where I want it but I think about what I am doing. Today it was like floating, while placing the car exactly where it should be. I wish I drove like this more often.

Thank you Mr Saab for pulling over and making my drive more of a run.

I missed a stop light and had to wait two minutes minimum. It was Saturday and every car is on it's way to the beach. A 911S (997) came to the light across the intersection and went right on red legally. Yet if I had been in gear as the light changed the Porsche would not have gotten ahead of me. He used his power to zip ahead. We were both stuck behind plenty of cars, but one by one they peeled off leaving just the two of us, both going the limit at 35. It would be easy to speed on the straight but a 180 degree turn is coming up. At the end of this turn is a 55MPH sign.

The 911 driver, doing what I do, allowed all cars up ahead to get further along. I dropped into second just before the turn and as we exited the turn he went full on the gas. I was grateful for the earlier decision to downshift. The 911 shot towards the next turn now at the 55 limit. Clearly this fellow knew the road and conditions. He left room for unexpected bicyclists, which is a must. I stuck with him for seven turns, never a peep from our tires, never exceeding the speed limit, then we met traffic going 25-30 MPH.

Apparently he lived nearby as he pulled into a residential turn off. I waved and smiled as I gave a thumbs up, he refused to look at me.

The rest of the ride was bumper tp bumper all the way home.

Yesterday was strange from the get go.

While returning home after a light rain, I had with me six rifles and three pistols crammed inside along with $35,000 in cash, all obtained legally I assure you. This is the day I do not want to be stopped by the police and explain, so I am on my best behavior.

All went well, slowing anywhere that could be a potential problem up ahead around the bend. All went with out event until way up ahead, I saw the CHP. This is the recently reduced to 40 MPH zone. Once upon a time it was a 65MPH zone but that was in the past. I glance down and see I am near 50, so I let my foot off the gas and go by at 40. Sure enough the CHP starts to move. I panic and put the cash on my person thinking at least I'll be able to bail myself out if things go south.

Just then going the other direction, comes a hero it a hot hatch going 65-80.
The CHP did a U turn and That was that.

No room for a hot chick. I was on my way home to her. Besides, I had two long guns occupying the front seat floor boards to the head rest.

Today was a mix of emotions for me. I leave the garage and manage to allow the Lexus ahead, to let me go first , just as another car came and spoiled this. I followed the new car until he unexpectedly let me by. I waved and a half mile later, came to a stop sign. Here I waited for some slow mover to eventually not signal and therefore not cross in front of me. This small delay left me behind the septic tank pump truck.

But no, wait! the truck is waving me forward ahead of himself. Unbelievable.
It wasn't long before I met some other slow movers. Although my morning emotions were a mixed bag, not a bad bag, will be my final verdict.

I also had the XP8's put back on for Leaguna Seca at the end of the month.

Driving back from dinner at my mom's last night, I had had a bad driving day up until now. stop and go traffic and worse still, drivers who drive slowly after they fought to get to the stoplight pole position.

So while exiting the freeway a car ahead was exiting at 10 MPH. I passed in the left lane then back into the right lane ahead of her and stop at the red light. She pulls up, high beams blazing, and starts yelling at my for my maneuver. I stick my hand out the window and start making sock puppet, sans sock, blah, blah blah, motions. She and her passenger go nuts. He is yelling, you want me to kick your arse. I continue with my sock puppet motions. Eventually the light turns green and the SUV next to me takes off like he is the one being yelled at. I thought it best to put distance between me and the car behind so I got ahead simply to get stuck first at the next light. Once again the couple pulls up behind, yelling more, but what am I going to do.

Finally the light turns green and the road is open and those losers are now far behind, still blazing their high beams into my 'Home Link' mirror. Every other driver from the opposite direction, is flashing their high beams back to get her to turn them down.

I get in a few curves to myself when I encounter my least favorite car driving 20+ in a 55 MPH zone, as usual. The idiot in front of me is actually braking while going uphill. That is it! This day needs more driving fun and fewer idjits. I hit the gas and pass this thing, and Mr. Hybrid hits his high beams. Another satisfied customer.

From here it really was a good drive home. The only other car saw me and used a turnout and I jetted past. No more slow cars all the way home.

:ugh2: sounds like a bad day all around. Thank you both for reminding me.

I have been preparing for Laguna Seca this upcoming Saturday. I had my mechanic tighten the KW's. Instead he lowered the car. It turns out I like this as they fixed the roads around here. It feels even better than before around the bends. I have been expecting the mechanic the past two days to pick up the car and finish the job however. Today must be the day!

Wonderful. a day at the track is mandatory.
The KWv3's are coil overs that allow for easy lowering and stiffness adjustments as well. My mechanic let me down today. I saw him late today and he said bring it in the morning and leave it. Normally he picks up and drops off for me.

I may keep your picture up another month Mrs. March. Of course I won't be able to mark my calendar to wish you luck. I may need to rethink this.

I like all this banter. Nice to see you folks here. BC20, please keep us posted, right here* if you'd like, on your upcoming track day. When is it?

I got my car back yesterday after dropping it off in the mornings rain. I am a lucky man. It was dry and the road was some what open. All I can think is why didn't I set these coil overs to this stiffer setting ages ago. Well today I leave for a 600 mile trip so I will be able to report if I still think that this is a good set up.

I cleaned out my car including spare tire, sub woofer, mats, tools, etc. I hope that I will not need these things on an all or nothing gamble. I have more room for luggage, but it is the hassle at the track I am actually avoiding.

At 4PM Saturday there could be as many as 105 cars on the track at once. I am holding a small bragging rights contest as to how many cars will actually be on the grid. I am guessing a lot fewer. I'll go with 27.

* I'll even re-title this thread if you wish.

First auto cross on 5/12. Mothers Day! Perfectly appropriate as i will get to do something exciting just for ME!! Not too many moms doing that....(stuff for them or auto cross)!
