Remind me of which video, that was, if you will please. A track day in April is beyond way cool. It is so worth it. I do hope you will video your track day and share it us. It is a way to relive that moment which is so fleeting. I am just sorry racing is a seasonal sport. |

Oh boy do I know which video you refer to. I get more comments about that video. It was one unusual day where I failed to strap in the goods with the seat belt. The worst part is I never want to be distracted while doing my favorite things including driving. Recently some one commented that video ought to be a PSA about distracted driving. Here is another. This is my favorite video personally. No VDC, bikes or pesky Prius to get in the way. The sun was just rising. What a morning. Nissan 370Z - Top of the morning - YouTube |
Lol! Love it! I only watched 6 minutes (i'm at work) but I smiled the entire time! How fast was that van going? And now I know why people pull over for you! Car sounds amazing w ACDC playing in the background :woot: :tip hat: thank you Tam!

:tiphat: Lovin' the personlized mention I got! LOL
You go 80!!! with all those curves! I have never ever flashed my lights to get somebody to pull over for me....I was taught to only do that if it an emergency.....would not be comfortable doing it....so I just drive slow and fume :) Your "tone" seems a bit offended that pedestrians are afraid of the silver bullet! LOL! I would step back to, if only to better admire the show! |

RE: Your "tone" seems a bit offended that pedestrians are afraid of the silver bullet! LOL! It is just that I have no intention of harming them and they seem to make a big show out of it. They feel the way they do so how can I argue with their interpretation. I do not relish putting them in this situation. I just want to drive in my lane, and hit nothing. |

Today I brought a camera. Tonight I'll post my greasy drive. This was a less enjoyable drive as the wet, cold road lacked some grip. Less, but still wouldn't miss a moment of it! VDC on and I still slipped a bit. |
As promised, my camera upload. I wished I'd centered the camera better and had had less glare, but it is, what it is.

Yeah I know it is surprising as I have all my teeth, and have never owned a truck, but if the shoe fit's...... I can not talk about running a still, as I could be reported for an illegal activity and get another "racing" violation of the forum rules. :bowrofl: :roflpuke2: |

I had a car load of groceries and was on my way home when a kid with his fathers* 911, approaches me and asks about my car. I asked him about his 996, and he corrected me that it was a 911. A few more exchanges about cars and he asks me to race him up the mountain where he has seen me driving. Holy Toledo, this is my daily commute. I tell him no thanks and he becomes less polite and makes a few more comments designed to get my goat.
I leave Safeway and head home. the kid follows me, antagonizes me at the light, gets ahead of me and drives off at a speed I would normally drive but I do not want this kid near me so I pull over for about a minute, so he can get away and I figure I am done with him. I already forgot about him and just cruised home. I could see through the trees that slower cars were ahead. I knew I might get to pass these cars if I got to the passing point up ahead of them. I timed it perfectly and passed three cars including the 911. I did not know he was in the group until after I'd made my move. I was not racing and had the police been there I'd have done the same. I was rewarded with an open road all the way home. The groceries survived although they did get loose a bit. * I assume this due to age and ignorance. |
Wow! How did I miss this thread
I power read the entire thread and I'm subscribed now  Love the writing, love the videos :tiphat: |

Sigh.....mt tam melts me w his words:tup: :p. seriously love it:tup: another great story! |
I heard then saw an EVO going past my place of work and could not help but think what fun he is about to have. The roads were wet, it was sunny, and in the low 40's.
As I was leaving late in the afternoon I saw the same EVO on a flat bed and with only a brief glance to see what the problem was, I am guessing he spun and hit a tree square with the trunk. Pretty awful. I took off as usual and the road conditions were similar. The road stayed moist and the sun was unable to dry the road except in the direct sun light. So every turn under the trees stays wet and cold. I took my first few turns at a normal speed and got normal feed back as these were in the sun. The next few turns in the shade quickly felt like I should slow down and think about the EVO, and did. Soon however I was up on a couple of cars following at their slow pace. The lead car signaled and turned hard right while the next car lost control somehow and partially slid onto the shoulder. A poor description as I was half asleep at this speed :icon17:. I stopped way back, then pulled up along the stopped car to ask the driver if she needed any help, clearly she did not but asked anyway. She was shaken up only. The road is open again but I am still thinking about the EVO and what I just saw, so not too fast. Immediately a Mustang comes up behind, and my strict rule of Always let the faster driving car by came into effect. At the first opportunity I signaled him to pass me. It is a turning lane designed for residents to pull into so as not to stop traffic. It also works as a passing lane in this instance. It also happens to be under a bunch of eucalyptus trees. For those unfamiliar with their debris, their leaves, acorns and bark fall and get wet making up what I've referred to as a slurry. He was only too happy to pass me with a ton of power on a sweeping off camber right turn, where this slurry gets pushed by the cars going both this and the opposite direction. A smooth application of power would have served him better. His engine lit up, he flew past me, his engine made different sound, followed by his rear end passing him in a 220 degree spin. He stayed on the road as he came to a stop, facing the other direction, but all lined up for the road, the turn lane was originally for. I figure he just needed to do a U turn and he'd be back behind me. This is a good point to mention that California drivers are so unaccustomed to bad driving conditions that we are very dangerous. Note this if you see CA plates in your driving. So with all this sliding and spinning you can imagine my reticence at turning off VDC at my usual turn. I came into the turn fine but exiting I drifted a foot unintentionally. This goes back to, CA drivers are unpredictable in lesser road conditions. That Mustang never turned up again either. The rest of the drive home was VDC on, dry and uneventful. |
^^^educational narrative and nice change Mt. Tam:tup: and a good reminder to be always aware of not only the condition of the surface upon which you are traversing but also maintain keen awareness of those that are around you. You KNOW what you are going to do, what others are going to do: crap shoot:tup:

I just saw your thread and I enjoy reading all of it. Keep up the great work! I watched the entire top of the morning video. I thought it was great, but might be more thrilling if you place your camera the way you do on the track. |
A few days ago I was tired and told myself to just relax and drive home. This started out fine too. I must have been 8th in a string of slow moving cars. When I got to the first real turn on the way home I had but one car before me. It was that type of car, that I hate most. Suddenly my fatigue seemed to turn to "hey pull over".
In what has become a carbon copy of past stories, I waited and passed the car where I always pass cars (the only safe place really), and then flew home from here. Oddly, my mentality in the moment was that of being chased. If I was, they never caught me. I felt this still as I pulled into the garage. It added a weird element. |

I had a good laugh today driving home on the highway. I saw a guy driving a pathfinder in slow lane, I noticed he had a California plate and he was all the way up here in Southwestern Ontario! Sure it was windy and some snow was coming down but thinking of what you where saying had me laughing as I passed him in my old winter beater

Want to Know How Many Priuses Are Registered with the DMV in Marin? That'll Cost You $12K
Want to Know How Many Priuses Are Registered with the DMV in Marin? That'll Cost You $12K - Novato, CA Patch In order to fulfill Patch's request, DMV officials said the agency had to charge Patch $135 per hour for 10 hours ($1,350) to create the extraction program, plus $880 per hour for 10 hours ($8,800) to run the program, plus $.10 for each Prius in Marin identified in the extraction (estimated by Patch at $2,000). Patch would also need to produce vehicle identification numbers (VIN) for each type of Prius in advance of the search. That's approximately $12,150 for a single piece of data - that is, the number of Toyota Priuses registered in Marin County. We declined to pay the fee So the estimated number of Prius in my county is 20,000. So all my previous ranting is because they are seemingly everywhere. Today I got off to a good start when I found my first "trendy" car to slow me down. With good fortune it turned off leaving me a nice unobstructed road. Before I arrived at the only stop sign, the car ahead turned off the unusual direction again leaving me with a lonely road. It was not until the last turn, several miles later, where a Prius finally held me up. Looking in the rear view mirror produced another Prius entering the roadway. This is what inspired me to look up how many of these damnalbe machines exist. I removed my XP8 brake pads for a couple months between track sessions, and at one spot every day under hard braking, I skid or slide the tiniest bit where as the XP8's did not. Otherwise the stock pads are fine for my street use. I wish everyone well. |
^^^^no Prius envy......move along...nothing to see here....thats right move along!

I got my hair cut last night and as I went to leave, my car battery was not strong enough to start. The cutter had jumper cables and with her brand new car, which she did not know how to pop the hood on, (I did) got my car started. This reset my outside temperature to celsius. 14 degrees.
Last time I left her place I had also had a very long massage and was so relaxed I was impaired. This time I was not. It was dark and initially I had the road to myself. Driving in the dark allows a different style of driving, due to the fact you can see headlights coming through the trees and around turns. Up ahead I was approaching something and if I stayed on my current pace I should be able to catch up before the passing zone. The passing zone, enchanting Mrs March 2013 BC20 knows all too well ;). It was a brand new paper plated Merc. I'm quite sure it cost more than a GTR but few GTR's would travel so slowly on a great road. As I got to the zone one, two then three cars were were in it going the opposite way! As the third and last car went by me, I made my move about 20 feet further than is normal for me. The bastard Merc nailed the gas and tried to prevent me from getting by. It made no difference. I was past him but since nobody was coming the opposite way, I stayed a little longer in the wrong lane so as not to pressure the guy who cared not one wit about my safety, but I was past and gone. His high beams had no effect either as I have that cool rear view mirror (home link). A mile or two down the road I came up on a truck. As I contemplated where to pass this, they went the other direction. Great. I then saw another car that became my next obstacle. As I met this vehicle going up hill, I was at the next spot to go by without one moment lost. It is fabulous to have a car like the Z which has power on tap, when you need it. It was just one of those perfect drives. The only other possible obstruction was a truck that saw me coming and waited rather than get in front of me. Thank you sir, whoever you are :tiphat:. As I pulled in the garage to but my battery on the charger, I thought, what a lucky fellow I am (am I)*. * grammar check |
 :woot: I am glad you enjoy night driving. and I agree too on having the power on tap to use whenever it suits. :yum: I love my Z.
now on the other hand my poor little Civic, it takes a beating. :shakes head: I forget it is not my Z (just an underpowered 2 cousin twice removed) so I flog it, a lot. It responds as best it can and takes me safely home in the snow and sleet and rain and cold. I should show it more respect. sigh. It just doesn't compare and I have no patience....spring is coming:excited: |
