Took the Z to work last night  On the way home I did some troubleshooting. I have a ticking noise coming from behind the instrument cluster area only when I get in boost. I had a feeling it was the solenoid from my boost controller because I have it mounted to the metal surrounding the brake booster, this is in line with the area the noise is coming from. Anyhow, an easy test was to turn the boost controller off, thus bypassing the solenoid, good news, no noise. So... I have three options, 1. Live with the ticking noise when I use the boost controller, 2. Move the solenoid, or 3. Isolate the solenoid from the metal in the existing location.
In other news I ran over a piece of tire debris on the highway. I had to straddle it to minimize potential damage. Good news is the body work is a-ok, bad news is it hit something under the car. I'll need to get under the car to investigate but I believe everything will be ok. The car sounds and drives the same otherwise  |
Get a rubber squish washer to put between the solenoid and the mount. Heck even a thick oring would do the job in place of the washer.
I am so scared to run over stuff on the highway you just cant see around vehicles in front of you till its to late. So far I been pretty lucky. |
i ran over a hubcap thinking i could clear it on my lowered G... :shakes head: broke the under shroud. i used my heat gun to re-shape it and used some plastic sheets i had to fix it.
serously considering to get a metal one though if im going to keep my G longer... |

Yeah, if I swerved to missed the debris I would have royally messed something up. I think I lucked out. I won't have time to look until this weekend. |

A metal undershroud from Joe at Z-Speed is on the list. I'm holding out because the shipping for the part is almost as much as the part itself. I hate the IDE of spending that much money on shipping. :ughdance: |

I'll call Joe later this week. Let me know if you have any other serious buyers, but for now I'll ask about getting 2 black ones.

On the topic of running stuff over, I hit a huge chunk of tire while on a quick cruise to make sure I wasn't leaking oil after an oil change. I still had the shroud off. I hit this thing hard, and it tore a wire under the car that affected my power steering. I didn't realize it until I had to turn off on a cloverleaf exit, it caught me by surprise and I had to struggle for a quick second to keep it on the road. I got back under the car and luckily it had just broken a plastic electrical plug, so I was able to repair it and tuck it back up there, then put the shroud on. If its not one thing it's another. I survived Zdayz 2013... (barely) |

is that metal undershroud opening even big enough to screw off the filter without getting drips on the top side of the shroud?
|
That's what I was thinking but like Jason said if your already taking one off makes no difference taking this one off lol.

Galeforce, PM your final build details (psi, HP/TQ, etc) so I can add it to the forced induction finished builds thread.

I also have some Craft Square mirrors coming to me shortly. Unfortunately I won't receive them in time for Z-Fest. I'm very excited to get them, supposedly they are the only set in Canada.

mmmmm....parts!

these mirrors sound familiar to me.... ;)

Hey, how are you going to address the oil filter relocation issue with the z-speed undertray

The trap door does look like you would have ample room to remove the oil filter if it was in the stock location. I'll try to get a picture of it installed. |
