Ordered a taller more natural shift knob from Rod at Z1 Motorsports
http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7be2faf7.jpg |
My new shift knob from Z1Motorsports (black one) compared to my Forged Performance. Love them both equally in there ways. Because of the aggressive shifting the Z1 knob feels a lot better ergonomically in my palm. Plus the lighter weight surprised me. I always preferred a heavier knob but it works great. Feels a lot more graceful.
But I will never get rid of my Forged knob. Had it for about eight years and it's been in my last three cars (350Z, G37, 370Z). Will go in my next vehicle. It's looks so bad ***. http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0zifhsye.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...psthzr8cre.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...psutq5zvwv.jpg |
^^^
I too switched away from what's thought to be better, a heavy knob to a MCR knob which is very light weight and sits very low compared to other knobs! My impression is it's a more connected feeling? |

looks awesome out on the track...got me contemplating more hood vents lol

Glad to see it back on the track.

Thanks guys for the comments. Means a lot to me, seriously.
Dzel, that is a great shot. I have about 60 more pics coming from that day. Here's how todays track day started at VIR. Two nights before they had some what locals said was post to be a dusting that turned into what looked to be 4''. By this afternoon it was mostly gone. Surprised the hell out of me. Temps ended up about 60. Got a hour and half in today. Should be a great day tomorrow. First time being here so I was learning the ropes and so. I'll have video then. http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...psa9b0665e.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...psc2cdefb1.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6dc18ed1.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...psec30ca91.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...psdf1137dc.jpg |
Get any more snow there. you can put on snow tires with studs and practice your ralley driving. LOL

Race track? Or skating rink...? :D

Awesome SPOHN!
I just spent a rainy Sunday morning reading the entire thread. Great read. Keep it up! The car looks great. |
Crazy! Last year my first event of the year had cold dry track, cold rain, full sun, snow, sleet, rain sun in that order. :) The sleet was interesting!

This all reminds me, a pretty cool guy named Kent who instructs at the event I was at yesterday recommended a book in conversation. The book is called "The Art of Racing in the Rain". It's actually written from the point of view of a dog named Enzo and most of it isn't directly about racing, but supposedly has a lot of good philosophical insights on life, and does occasionally talk about racing in the rain. Quote from Amazon: "Through Denny, Enzo has gained tremendous insight into the human condition, and he sees that life, like racing, isn't simply about going fast. Using the techniques needed on the race track, one can successfully navigate all of life's ordeals." I haven't read it yet, but it's on my list now!

I think I have more pics of your car than my own lol, glad to see this beast back in action.

Here's some videos of my first weekend ever at VIR (Virginia International Raceway). Great track indeed. It really changed my hole perspective on how I drive and how different tracks will teach you so much more to driving. This track really requires smooth inputs throw out all turns and only then you will see how much smoother your car handling characteristics work for you thus more speed beyond what you could imagine.
The track was just resurfaced so many driving lines where changed so even the instructors had to figure them out. So T2. T10, T11, and T12 had changed a lot so I know a lot of time could be made up there. I never really got a got hot lap due to traffic but that's ok. Especially after passing everyone twice in one session. But either way much improvement is needed on my part for smoother inputs. |
Ive seen quite a few video on VIR .... I got to plan a trip down south in the next 3 years .this one and road atlanta are on my list !

what happens if you go over those big *** berms?

nice driving... be cautious of overtaking at start / finish, you are hanging out at the pit out line, not a great place to be at 100+mph

Love VIR on my bike. We take the sharp right though up the hill after the bridge. The G force is awesome!
Spohn I count around 2:24? That good? |
Nice videos, I miss being on the track

Great Pics...are a little more clear on FB.

Love that second one with your wheel tucked!

How does it feel being back behind the wheel again? :D
|
Like a drunken prom date
|
It's messy, ends quickly, and everyone is slightly groggy and embarrassed afterwards? :)

For your steering shaft, did he use any of the factory shaft at all or did he find a splined shaft somewhere that fit properly and all?
