Thanks http://www.websmileys.com/sm/happy/915.gif The wire tuck really doesn't take long and I love the look! Busy creating a spreadsheet right now estimating the cost of this motor build, fml! lol

This is just the motor build, turbo and hotside piping not included yet! big power is not cheap but it sure is fun :)

Updated All Parts: Using the Megan headers as manifolds so we can cut off the triangular flanges and weld in V-Bands to prevent exhaust leaks, shitty gaskets, etc.... The inside of the turbo manifolds will be coated and the outsides will be wrapped to keep the maximum amount of heat inside. Johnny will be going back to his original twin scroll design he used on the VQ35 platforms back in the day with fantastic results. I'll update pics and statuses as the build comes along!

This setup ran 10.'s w/ power in the mid 600's till he blew the motor failing to upgrade fuel pumps :/

That spreadsheet looks somewhat like my invoice, haha. Good luck with the build! Can't wait to see this thing built and some 1/4mile times.

O&G 11-04-2012 04:22 PM

Hope to get her to the track in January! Praying I won't need any The Driveshaft Shop | 370Z / G37 - Nissan - Import Axles after the first visit!

Robert_K 11-04-2012 07:49 PM

Looks good! I would invest in having everything PolyDyn coated. They're local too. And why order everything from GTM??? I'd use IPP.

I've heard decent results from Poldyn coating, but not having everything done. Johnny said he wants to coat the inside of the turbo manifolds and wrap the outside. The list I made was concerning everyday prices individuals would pay buying said parts. JTran has many vendor accounts so I'll let Amber find the best deals, I'm not sure if they still do business w/ IPP. I know IPP can get his hands on anything, just not sure what route Amber will go. I'm guessing the first chunk of change will be spent on fab/turbo parts.

Robert_K 11-04-2012 08:25 PM

Don't expect "gains" from PolyDyn coatings but more of an insurance. Here is my list of items PolyDyned;
~ Pistons (Tops & Skirts)
~ All Turbo Kit Piping (Outside only, Inside showed no gains)
~ Intercooler (Went black to hide it)
~ Exhaust Manifolds
~ Turbo Hotside
~ Downpipes

I think I'm forgetting something but that is the bulk of it.

And Yeah... Amber & Johnny can get some great pricing from their Vendors. I like Kyle because he local and "I" like to support the local businesses. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm sure all our heads together can build ya an awesome car!

O&G 11-04-2012 08:38 PM

Yea, GTM has everything on their website for the VQ37VHR so it was easy for me to get prices on parts. I just wanted to get an estimate of what I'll be looking at. I appreciate all the information, Ron used Polydyn on all his exhaust parts too. Seems to be working well and it looks good while protecting the metal! For all I know Amber will use IPP to get most of the parts. I also read where GTM does a graphite skirt coating and ceramic top coat, I mite look into this option as well. Waiting on JTran and Amber to review my creation and tell me what more I need or don't need. Getting xcited http://www.websmileys.com/sm/happy/077.gif

Im so excited for this! I hope to learn from all these recent builds for when (if) I put mine under the knife sometime next year. If all goes well I can join the built motor clan as well.

That spread sheet actually does not look to bad, half of what I had thrown around in my head for costs.

98intrigue 11-10-2012 05:40 PM

I came back to your page just to listen to this for a 3rd time.

I sh*t on speed bumps!

All parts have been ordered and should be arriving within the week minus the Arias custom made pistons. Ron Burgenholtz @ JTran Studios has had some great success with these “custom” made pistons throughout his years of racing, plus he has a hookup over there. I had the pleasure of watching him assemble a V-8 going into a 2011 Z06 yesterday, I have no doubts my motor will be built correctly the first time. He is very meticulous, labeling, cleaning, and measuring over and over again. He used a manual ring grinder to set the piston rings; the guy is a machine…old school style! Arias does not shelf stock their pistons; each set is made when the order is placed so the turnaround is about 25-30 days. I went ahead and ordered cams as well, my goal right now is to build the motor as stout as my budget will allow.

• K1 Rods / ARP fasteners / bearings
• Arias 9:5:1 custom made pistons
• Cosworth High Performance Head Gasket’s
• VQ37 VHR rebuild kit / rear main seal
• ARP studs
• Jun exhaust cams
• GTM spring and retainer upgrade package
• GTM 3 inch intake runners from GTM’s S/C intercooler
• STRI 52mm fuel pressure gauge
• Z speed extended under shroud powder coat black

My upgraded and rebuilt COMP turbo should be back at the shop next week as well. JTran was trying to get me to do a forward facing twin turbo set up but I don’t have the cash for that right now so we are sticking with the single. I know he wants to flip the exhaust manifolds and stick the turbo in the front bumper but I’m not sure if we will end up doing it. If we do go that route the car will turn into a full race car, gutted, roll cage, fuel cell w/ custom fuel setup, etc… He wouldn’t fab an exhaust on the forward facing single, just fire out the side of the front bumper…. Right now I’m split on it, the 40th has such a nice interior, not sure if I want to go full race. I might stick with the low mount and single exhaust, plus it will be the cheaper option! “1st world problems!”

I’ll get some parts pics up when they all arrive!

GaleForce 12-20-2012 04:42 PM

Awesome!

Thanks!
You can use metal hose clamps like I did on my Tundra's longtube headers

http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...ubeheaders.jpg

or you can buy the DEI metal ties, they make great products....here is a link DEI 010202 14" Stainless Steel Locking Ties, Pack of 4 : Amazon.com : Automotive

SPOHN 12-20-2012 05:33 PM

The DEI metal ties are hard to use. Hard to get them tight unless there's a tool for them.

Not sure if I used the DEI clamps on my hotside piping but I know needle nose pliers and a flat head screwdriver help tighten them down. You can even use metal wire and twist the ends together to secure the wrap!

Robert_K 12-20-2012 08:57 PM

You can do a cage with the nice interior. Because race car!!! LOL Coming along nicely!

Boost_lee 12-20-2012 09:15 PM

Looks good man

Kingbaby 12-20-2012 11:28 PM

Thanks the wire is a cleaner look!

http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...r/lowmount.jpg

I'll source out wire at hardware store...thanks again

O&G 12-21-2012 10:48 AM

Yea the wire works very well and it's easy to use! Post pics when you get done with your wrap! Wrapped pipes are sexy! You might also want to buy some protective coating to apply to the wrap, it gives it a nice color and extends the life of your wrap!

Updated spreadsheet 12-28-12, going for a road race setup! Motor, fuel have priority. After that it's on to completing the suspension, chassis, brakes, tires and safety equipment! Always wanted a race car! Aiming for motor, fuel and turbo work to be done by end of February and for a full completion by early spring, depending on funds!

Congrats but safety should be your number one concern for a road race car.

Thanks guys... Always wanted to get into racing and now that I have some experianced racers around it looks like that will be coming true. Ron Burgenholtz has invited me to practice with them at the 25 hour endurance race at thunder hill in cali with their 100 hp mazda 2!! JTran, Ron and I are going to try to get pretty serious in the scene. Ron has already conquered the drag and drift scene.

Weve been discussing cooling and fueling and we will be mimicing the RX8 formula drift build that DeNofa uses in compitition. It wont be cheep but its the only way. My CSF radiator will be up for sale for a decent price as well. It has had minimal use with no track time.
