YIKES!

edconline 03-26-2012 03:56 PM

So got the handles back last week, they look amazing! they were even able to get the screws that hold the buttons in out without stripping them, (and confirmed that there is an insane amount of locktite on them) so the paint around those should hold up a lot better. The side markers look pretty good however, right down in the edge of the Z logo there are some spots that may need to be touched up, apparently they were hard to tape off.

Also, UPS left a package for me today:

RE-11's are finally here! 305/30R19 rears and 275/30R19 front. Now that there are here, I definitely notice the difference in OD between front and back, hopefully small enough it won't matter though. Not sure why Bridgestone doesn't offer the 275's in a 35 aspect.

Have to wait until late April to get these bad boys mounted and installed as I will be out of the province :(

wheee! 03-26-2012 04:00 PM

Looking good Ed! Can't wait to see it all together!

SPOHN 03-26-2012 06:58 PM

When you get time can I see a pic of the 275/30 from the side? It's like to see the height of the sidewall.

djpathfinder 03-26-2012 07:19 PM

Looks good Ed!

edconline 03-26-2012 07:36 PM

Thanks!

SPOHN 03-26-2012 07:47 PM

Thanks. Repped

I think I'm going to get 275 next. But I might go with AD08's just see how the run also.

edconline 03-26-2012 08:20 PM

No problem. I'd be interested in your review of the AD08's vs the RE-11's as those were my second choice.

Mike 03-26-2012 08:51 PM

AD-08s are awesome. On the track they have 90-95% of the performance of a Hoosier.

Brakes will be there day after tomorrow!

edconline 03-28-2012 06:32 PM

Got the brakes back today, they look incredible! Mike really does great work on these things, the pictures don't do it justice. For anyone on the fence about getting their calipers powdercoated, get it done! You will not regret it

I'll give you $50 for'em! C'mon! Hook a bro up! lol

edconline 04-05-2012 08:59 PM

This just came in today! Now if everything else would just work out so this plate really applies to the car :p

Glokwork 04-05-2012 09:06 PM

Just stopped in to see the progress and everything looks awesome man! How are you liking those RE-11s?

edconline 04-05-2012 09:20 PM

Thanks! Re-11's are still sitting here waiting to be mounted. About a month out from having everything ready still.

Glokwork 04-05-2012 09:25 PM

I'm sure they will be great and those calipers look amazing. I'm trying to get a BBK then hopefully do some powdercoating also.

edconline 04-19-2012 12:41 AM

Update:
Finally back in the city, so work on the car can resume! Got the tail lights taken off, bulbs put back in (probably would have been best if I had remembered to put the bulbs back in when I re-installed them the first time :p), put the door handles and side markers back on. That was no fun, as bad as it is taking the door handles off, it's just as frustrating putting them back in, especially since the two innermost plastic connectors will never reattach to the inside of the door once you break them loose. Also got the custom plate registered and mounted up again.

The other headlight should be back from 180 tomorrow, hopefully fully intact from the trip back! Need to get the headlights back on tomorrow and do an oil change while bumper and undershroud are still off.

Then later this week or on the weekend, need to get the new rotors, calipers and pads on and bleed the brakes. Put the tires back on, bed the new pads in and should be ready for the suspension install and alignment on monday!

Still waiting a couple weeks until the roads are all swept (and the snow stops for good!) to get the new wheels and tires on. Then the finishing touches will be the full detail and paint correction with Adams kit, and installing the harness bar, racing seats (when the second seat shows up) and harnesses. :driving:

Oh and once all that is finally done, a proper photoshoot (not with the iphone!)

djpathfinder 04-19-2012 08:58 AM

Nice plates!

Thanks! I'm gonna be using Racing Brake two piece front rotors and one piece Powerslot rear rotors with Racing Brake ET500 pads front and rear. I don't foresee myself needing a BBK anytime soon, but maybe the upgrades for the sport brake calipers next year.

edconline 04-19-2012 10:18 PM

Spent most of the day waiting for FedEx, so no work done on the Z :shakes head:

Did get two packages in though. Excuse the terrible iPhone pics! The 4S can take amazing pics, but only where the lighting is really good, not so much indoors!

Details on the headlights:
- Flat black housing
- Magnetic Black Shrouds and reflector strips
- LED Orb Rings
- Turn Signal projector lens conversion

Ed! buddy! Pal!....

I am sooooo jelly over those camber arms! Might need a set of those myself soon.

Zat_Zuma 04-20-2012 09:23 AM

That is the best way to go

Good choice on parts

edconline 04-21-2012 12:31 AM

Overall a fairly productive day on the Z today. Got the headlights back on, new rotors on, calipers back on. Did not get the new pads in as I still am not sure which side the pad with the clip that tells you when the pad is low goes on, or if it even matters.. I may just remove those clips entirely before I install the pads and bleed the brakes tomorrow.

For the headlights, I am not a huge fan of how they were wired up. I think maybe they were wired expecting the US cars which do not have DRL? The function is as follows:

-When the car is not running, but the ACC is on, in the off position, everything is off, in the Parking light position, the Orb Rings are illuminated (but no parking lights), in the Auto and On positions, both the Orb Rings and the HID lights are on.
-When the car is running, both the HID lights and the Orb Rings are on all the time, regardless of switch position. So even in 'Off' or 'Parking', both the lights remain on until the engine is shut off. And still no parking lights, it's like the Orb Rings replaced them entirely.

At the end of the day, it's not too bad as the HID's/Orb Rings look amazing together, and having the lights on all the time with the engine isn't the end of the world, I'm sure the LED Orb Rings will last forever, and the HID's should be good for a long time. I just wish I had been told about this limited function beforehand. As long as the repairs on the one light hold up, I'll be happy.

Also did an oil change today, it's worth noting that either before hand or when I unscrewed the filter, the bolt holding the sandwich plate for my cooler loosened off and had to be re-tightened. (Good luck getting a wrench in there, and have fun trying to find a 25mm socket...) Got it done eventually though, and still no leaks which is always a plus.

djpathfinder 04-21-2012 12:38 AM

I used a 1" socket to tighten the sandwich plate (yes, standard, not metric). So, if you ever need one to re-tighten it again, remember I have one you can borrow.

edconline 04-21-2012 12:55 AM

Thanks for the tip, that is actually what I used in the end. It did the job, but I think the nut is actually 25mm?

djpathfinder 04-21-2012 01:13 AM

Yeah, 25.4mm was close enough (no damage to the sandwich plate). I couldn't find a 25mm metric sized socket anywhere and using an adjustable wrench wasn't possible because of its size.

edconline 04-23-2012 11:35 PM

Got the Koni's and the Swift's installed today    (And the SPL Arms, lockout kit and toe bolts, man those SPL arms are sweet!)

Wheels Plus did them and did an amazing job, their customer service was second to none as well. They also mounted and balanced my RE-11's on the Advans (Sorry no pics, they are just sitting in the basement waiting for all the sand to get cleaned off the road!)

The setting I am running on the Koni's is full soft for both front and rear for now. The nice thing about these is you can adjust the fronts easily at any time just by popping the hood, and all you need to do to adjust the rears is pop the rear wheels off.

Initial driving impression is that the terrible, unbelievably bad, abysmal road conditions here are somewhat more manageable with this combo. The suspension feels stiffer and yet more absorbent to bumps somehow. Will post proper feedback once the new tires go on and I start driving her hard again.

Alignment finished with -1.7 up front with .04 toe in/side, -2.0 rear with .08 toe in/side. Going back for an alignment check in two weeks with the new wheels on. So glad this is done! She's starting to get close now, not looking forward to the 4 days of detailing that lies ahead of me though :shakes head:

djpathfinder 04-24-2012 12:43 AM

I'm glad you were happy with WheelsPlus.

wheee! 04-24-2012 07:14 AM

Swifts and Konis FTMFW!

Zat_Zuma 04-24-2012 09:02 AM

What is the total drop?

wheee! 04-24-2012 10:58 AM

Should be the same 1.25" front and 1" rear...

edconline 04-24-2012 11:28 AM

Yeah those numbers are the default drop with these I think. TBH I did not measure it before or after, plus things are still settling so I'm not sure.

EDIT: Updated page 1 with current mods.

edconline 05-04-2012 06:37 PM

Over the last week got a few more things done. Installed the ZR4 Laser Shifter, thanks Semtex for the DIY! Still have to make sure the front shifters are dead level to ensure it will work properly. Also I got the new wheels put on finally! Roads are still a bit dirty to drive much, but at least they are on now, and I can go for an alignment check next week. They look even better than I thought they would  Can't wait to get the photoshoot done once it's all detailed and the seats are in!

Just today I installed the harness bar. The instructions provided made everything dead simple, and the thing fits like a glove  Looks almost OEM with all the panels back in. Re-installed all the interior in the back, I was planning on not keeping the spare in there anymore as the jack doesn't fit under the car anyway now that it's lowered and I'd probably just get a flatbed if I get a flat, however I couldn't find a good way to keep the Bose sub in there without the tire, so it stays for now.

Your car looks like a 350z for some reason to me at least lol. Looks good nonetheless.

djpathfinder 05-04-2012 07:14 PM

Looking good Ed! So when are we doing a photoshoot? :stirthepot:

SPOHN 05-04-2012 10:06 PM

Nice bar.
