Car's going to look awesome when done can't wait! Motivates me to work on mine again.

docaam 08-14-2011 04:10 AM

Thanks guys Im really excited as well.

I bought the car as a mid project from a guy in California last month he is still working on few things and then the shell is scheduled to ship to dubai next week.

I am torn between RB25DET or SR20DET both engines had their own plus points, it will be finalized soon and hopefully by the time car reaches here (6 weeks) engine will be done.

Will keep the updates and built posted

christian370z 08-14-2011 08:19 AM

RB all the way. That engine is one of the best sounding and smoothest engines ever made in my opinion, but you can't go wrong with the extra torque from the SR either.

roplusbee 08-14-2011 09:06 AM

:iagree:

The RB25DET and RB26DETT are awesome motors for their time period. With a single turbo setup, you can easily make nice power and have close to stock spool characteristics. I am not a fan of the SR20DET, but I had a CA18DET and felt that it was not an inferior motor in comparison. I felt that the rocker arm setup in the SR was kinda crappy, but can be corrected with the proper upgrade parts.

I'll be watching dude.........:driving:

Red__Zed 08-14-2011 09:59 AM

Roll Center Adjusters for 240/260/280Z

-These RCAs (Roll Center Adjusters, or Bump Steer Spacers as the 510 guys call 'em) are designed to get rid of that pesky bump steer on your lowered vehicle

-The alignment sleeves are solid milled into the unit, so they will not get lost or come off. We also added a larger alignment ring for the center of the unit, to provide even more shear protection than other RCAs on the market. These RCAs will NOT move or become mis-aligned, no matter how hard you drive.

-Comes with all mounting hardware - four new grade 8 bolts and lock washers.

car is practically done!

I would kill for a 240z...

not really but you get what I mean

Unique_Z 10-23-2011 05:48 AM

Amir, how about RB26?

Ron 10-23-2011 07:40 AM

VQ35!? NOooO RB26 FTW!

Ron 10-23-2011 07:55 AM

Now that I looked at it, a VQ35 appears to be a good option. You've probably already seen this but there's some nice info on this thread:
RB26 versus VQ35 swap ? - HybridZ

docaam 11-24-2011 12:14 AM

Update:

Car is in a workshop getting engine mounting done at the moment.

Installing, making mounts for engine, gearbox and differential, and custom half shafts.

Engine going in is from later model (99-2003) R34 GTT 2.5l RB25DET NEO, slightly revised version of older RB25, mainly solid lifter, revised camshafts and a larger stock turbo.

http://img236.imageshack.us/img236/1599/27404mgmy3.jpg

Gearbox will be same from R34 5sp.

Rear differential is from Z31 and half shafts from 280zx.

Some pictorial

It really took me over a month to find a place who can go the custom jobs I required. I searched literally all over the country (500 mile radius), finally found something very close to my place (not Dubai but Alain). This is the place a small one but good thing is they only do these old Zs and can do any modification required.

One skyline and few 280zx standing.

Coming to bossiness, engine mounting are done and some are sent for lath person for pressing and some installed.

Gearbox will be assembled soon can be seen lying on the right side with drive shaft.

http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/8853/img9204u.jpg

R33 drive shaft going in, final length still needs to be decided

Differential mounts are done

Some problem with a good news and bad.

Good news is the previous owner from California reinforced the chassis and I thought that its just the front he was talking about but looking under the car there are reinforcement beams running full across the car. Installer was surprised to see all this, and he said its very difficult to get this kind of job done here, he rated it with maximum marks. He said I can install any engine with this kind of work.

Now the bad news is in US maybe the weld spots are ok and can be cleared easily at time of registration. But here its needs to be grinded else car cant be registered. So painter need to flip the car upside down and grinding all the joints and colour it again.

Weld spots are more visible in the front
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/4382/img9215f.jpg

Few spots in the middle
http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/6162/img9212l.jpg

At the rear there is a beam for a heavier differential as well
http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/6329/img9211k.jpg

http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/7285/img9208bh.jpg

Engine bay beams from top seems to be okhttp://img851.imageshack.us/img851/1883/img9206k.jpg
