good progress, looks great
|
Looking good!
I hate City stickers in the window ugh DAN |
I have gotten used to the stickers. One for inspection, one for registration. NY is fairly strict with no front plate too but I have not given in on that yet....
On another note, My 4.08 parts are in at Nissan ... Going there to pick them up tomorrow , Install is set for Tuesday the 23rd. Can't wait for them to be installed... Should be interesting to see how much traction I DON'T get in first when it's done, especially in this cold NY weather... Thanks to Jnaut for his help with part numbers and such.... |
how do you like your berk test pipes?
|
I don't not like them, but I sometimes wonder if I would be happier with resonated test pipes.. I always run test pipes or resonated test pipes on all my cars.
The car doesn't smell bad like some people complain or talk of, but there is some rasp. Its more pronounced when the car is still cold for the first 5 minutes or so but obviously there is more rasp than with car's I have heard with high flow cats. Overall my exhaust sounds excellent though. BUT if a set of resonated test pipes pops up for cheap I will probably pick them up and swap them to see if I like them better. |
do you feel a difference in power with the test price.
|
No idea if you could feel 2-3-5 hp... Im not sure of how much they actualy help ya know ? Im sure there is some increase in power though.
I have seen my chart plotted on top of other Zs from the same dyno with various mods and mine seems to be one of the better setups. |
I wonder if it cause of the exhaust
|
I have a dyno chart of my car and another 370 with LTH FI exhaust and not sure what intake, both after an up-rev tune and my car's power and TQ and entire band is significantly better.. Kind of awkward... Its actually the carbon fibered guy's Z ( the red one )...
Meanwhile a stock nismo with just test pipes put down 335 on that same dyno yesterday, so who knows?!? I'll scan and post that chart one of these days.. Yes, the dyno reads high but its consistent and a bunch of Zs are on it, so if you throw the highness of the number out of the window you still can see gains and comparisons just fine. I had Tony's long tube headers in my house two weeks ago but was convinced to do gears first , so I sold them off and got the gears.. I am a 1/4 mile track junky mostly but I have serious interest in getting into road coursing next summer so the gears would probably help the most out of my mods left... But the gears are being installed TOMORROW, I can't wait |
Had the 4.08 final drive installed, took a before and after video of where my RPMS were at, and are now at after final drive install... I will post that soon...
At 80 MPH I am at 3400 RPM'S before the gears I would be at 3000 RPM'S.. Gas Mileage in the little bit I have driven seems to have went down .4 around town , have not done any highway driving.. I can live with all these things just fine, maybe not for everybody but to me this was one of the better mods I have done. As far as increased in performance it is substantial ... The car accelerates like a beast, My tires spin 2x more than they did but it is still controllable, but If i fully throttle it in first at 4k they will break lose right away, I can no longer just mash the pedal down and go... Its cooler here now so thats hurting traction too but traction is def more of an issue than it was, but like I said its still controllable. I think this was prob the most dramatic mod I have done since I first installed test pipes and the intake in the begining... It's without a doubt faster than it was and not just by a small amount. I can not wait to get back to the strip with some good tires... the fact it puts my car in the power band in 4th going through the 1/4 instead of just getting into 4th and the actual increase in acceleration I have now I have no doubts that this will shave .2-.3 tenths off my 1/4 mile time. Now the question is , what is next ? Flywheel ? Try M370 out ? Go Long Tubes over my test pipes ? I am not sure, But I am sure that I am extremely happy with the outcome of this final drive. |
Just when I thought I was catching up to your 12.9 you add another mod to go faster!
|
Yea but your stock! And not too far behind.
But I'm thinking your track prep is above avg and prob just a quick track In general. Here in NY tracks are closed for the season ... You have 3-4 months still! Next season I'm going to go to Atco instead of e-town as I've heard it's a quicker track. I love friendly competition though. I'd love to just match ur boy jnauts 12.5. The 12.3 is just sick and i don't think it Will be touched NA |
Friendly competition is always good.
I'm shooting for 12.9x with the hfc's I just bought. |
My best 60 foot is just 1.96. You should get there if you can match your launch.
Atco raceway is actualy open until the 12th of December. So two more weekends. My rear tires are almost gone right now though. I Think I'd need new rubber to get a time I'm expecting though. |
I'd go long tubes headers my boy has em on his z.
Great performance mod! After that get some winter rims and tires and save up for spring time. We should be seeing snow within a month or so. |
Chuck, those eibach springs look great but theyare hurting your launch.

:iagree: As I said earlier long tube headers will be amazing! You should also think about the Intake Manifoldd! I'm sure you'll be in the mid 12's! |
I don't think the manifold will help him much.
|
Winter wheels have actualy been ordered! The wheels I am mounting them on are going to act as my track wheels next year...
Went with MB Weapon wheels 18x9 , they are far from nice but they arent bad and will serve as a dual purpose wheel so it will be a good investment.. I am grabbing Dunlop M3 Winter Sports off a guy from the 350 forums... Setup will end up costing me under 800 bucks... as far as LTH my shop swears it will hurt, or if not hurt, not help my power much over test pipes... If i posted this chart I have at my house which is an overlay over a car with FI LTH, FI Exhaust , and G3 intakes people would not believe the difference.. To me it doesnt make sense though.. its an expensive trial if it does indeed not help as much as promised... And tranceformer I love the way the car sits too much to go back to stock springs though... I think with more practice I will be able to get this thing off the line much better, esp with the gears now. |
Chuck, did yu decide if you're installing the LTHs?

i sold my set and went with the gears for now.. |
MB Weapon 18x8 and 18x9 In gunmetal finish for winter tires ( Blizzacks ) Will use these for my 265/45/18 MT Street Radial II's Next year too
http://www.the370z.com/members/chuck...dial-wheel.jpg Will change these to mounted pics when I recieve the two front wheels on wednesday... but here are some shots just laid next to the car to get an idea... not awful... http://www.the370z.com/members/chuck...-mb-weapon.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/chuck...weapon-18s.jpg |
Wow, those are probably the best winter wheels I've ever seen! Nice, Chuck!
|
We will see when they are mounted. I messed up with the profile of the tire though. I should of gotten 245/45/18 , I got 245/40/18 leaving the tire a little shorting. Raising my gear ratio even more lol.. Should be fine though.
They will be mounted on Wednesday or thursday, I'll post pics ... |

Mounted the winter wheels... I am happy with the result... more pics in my album...
http://www.the370z.com/members/chuck...none-front.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/chuck...none-front.jpg could go crazy and buy a 38mm Ichiba v2 spacer but I am going to leave it alone... the rear would sit better that way but its not too bad as is.. less tire shine to clean anyway. Got motegi Open Ended black lug nuts to fit my H&R extended studs as well since we need new lug nuts for these wheels anyway it was no big deal... |
I like the new look, Chuck.

Thanks!
I'm having my body shop try to paint match 40th wheels so when rays go back on they may be 40th color. I do love the way the stock rays contrast and pop off the white but I dig the Gunmetal look too. But I'm liking these for a winter set too. |
Gunmetal does look good on white.
|
Man, your terrible iPhone pic looks great. That's the direction my car is going ('cept I used 15mm spacers and no painted out back end) and I'm just waiting for the coilovers to show up. Have you ever actually measured the wheel arch height with Eibachs on?
|
score!!
|
No I Havent but with the skinner profile tires my car is now lower :( , too low where it will rub the wheel welll. But if it wasn't that low the winter wheels wouldn't look all that good at all. I def miss the rays and their stance with my spacers but I love the traction with these winter tires.
And the pics with the winter wheels were taken with a rebel xs. Thr detailed pictures from the first page and the test shots of winters with the iPhone. I'm still a rookie with the dslr tho ... |
Having it lower doesn't usually cause rubbing, different offsets or dramatically different tire sizes does.
|
It scrapes my driveway where it used to not scrape.. it doesnt rub on turning or anything like that... The tires are just over 3 percent smaller
225/45/18 245/45/18 It doesnt cause any issue worth worrying about though... It will be just fine through the winter months... |
I have gear envy.
The car looks great! |
chuckd05, is there any problems with srv, after the final drive installed??
|
I unfortunately do not have SRM :( ... I have upgraded to the VLSD and had the wheels and am in the hunt for brakes but no sports package for me... I don't necessarily regret it though as my car was purchased at a steal of a price.
