Hello everyone. Let me introduce my 370Z Nismo "Clubsport" build. I own this car since 2018 and I am lucky first owner. I still use Zee while I can as daily, I even do long range euro trips with it, but on majority of weekends it’s under heavy track abuse.

Initially I wasn’t planning modifications to such extend, but first few track events have verified how much has to be changed or improved – in short Zee didn’t match my pre-purchase expectations. Currently, after 3 years of improvements, I finally own the car I wanted from the beginning. It behaves very well at the track, but without any major sacrifices in steerability. AC is still there, no weight reduction, no roll cage. I want this car to be as universal as possible, not a track only vehicle.

https://i.ibb.co/nDn1Skm/IMG-7094-4k1621198106523.jpg

In 3 years period, I clocked in a Zee over 120k km and close to 100 different track events. Even though my car is under constant abuse, it's still extremely reliable and basically never fails (I only wasn’t able to strengthen gearbox synchros and they are the only thing I complain about). Beyond that, it’s just simple (but highly regular) service – love it.

Welcome to the forum.

Nice build.

I bet you will get questions on the Continental Teves Race ABS.

Hey, I'm actually on this forum for some time already, but never properly introduced my build - now I thought the project is advanced enough to be worth a thread, so :hello:

Considering Teves there is really not that much too say, except that it's as good as ABS gets. Not only it has significantly improved stopping power, lap times and allowed for better trail braking, but most importantly - ice mode and other ABS related bugs are gone. After second crash, because of stock ABS malfunction, i said no more and I invested in this. It was a very good decision.

The more you mod your car and go out of its factory spec and the more aggressive you drive, than the abs will malfunction more frequently and that is gurateed 100%. Basically all of the modern cars have the same issue - doesn't matter if it's Porsche, BMW or Nissan. It's because of those so called "safety features", that might work on certain occasions on the street and on stock specification, but they were never intended to work on the racing track, especially on modified vehicle.

Rusty 12-02-2021 06:55 PM

What's all involved in installing that ABS? Plug and play or what?

cv129 12-02-2021 07:05 PM

One strong build, all the right stuff, yum!!!!

ZontheRocks 12-03-2021 07:16 AM

Wow! This is a great build! Shout out to you in Poland!

Glad that you decided to share the build. Very unique and well thought out.

ZontheRocks 12-03-2021 08:20 AM

I’m back after watching your videos. That’s how I’m sure a majority of us wish we could drive our Zs!! All out on a track and with other drivers doing the same!

And your custom exhaust looks and sounds amazing! Really a great Nismo Z!

I bought my ABS kit from Racing Harness Technologies (you can find him on Facebook) and he sells it with dedicate harness, which makes things easier. Difficulty of the install depends on if you want to retain your stock speedo, odometer, rev match, variable power steering and other functions related to stock speed sensors and ABS

Here is a video of the "easier" method, one without stock speedo implementation.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4PquH-OOfM

But things get very difficult if you want no sacrifices. Whole operation took us almost 2 weeks. Basically you have to keep both of ABS units in the car - Teves for actual ABS work, and stock ABS (just a control module without a pump) for speedo, SRM etc., with all e41 connectors connected originally. In order to this, you have to duplicate all 4 slots to allocate set of speed sensors and that requires A LOT of fabrication. This is all because nissan ABS talks over canbus to ecu - no way around it

That race ABS is bad ***! I really need to look into getting one.

- Edit

I'm watching your install video. Glad you made that!

Nice job and thanks for sharing! I am hoping to share my experience as well whenever I get my Z back. It has been an seven month and counting wait on my MK60 ABS system swap. I will have the addition on the Bosch Motorsports controller with my setup, so it will be fun to compare notes!

He really turned a 370z into a 911GT3. I admire this build for the no compromise approach on retaining streetability, among many other things. I don’t think I will ever stomach such budget and time spent, so I’ll settle to just live my dream through this thread haha.

Somehow even after some 12 yrs since launched, new parts continue to come out and challenge our souls’ discipline. Lol. Hard to say no to shiny things!

:iagree: I am facing some similar challenges trying balance street and track goals, albeit not as serious as this thread. Looks like all I need is more money lol

Well done OP :tiphat:

This picture alone is . . . amazeballs

It looks like all the front facia openings are directing air to coolers - where is your brake ducting coming from?

I see what I assume are custom, rectagular inlets on the lower left/right corner below each DYRL , where are those going?

Cut-outs below DRL's are for oil coolers, with outlets in wheel arches. Brake ducting cut-outs are more to the center.

Stock steering rack is already telescopic in 370Z. It's just a matter of extending it to its maximum position and then making a bracket to lock it in the new position. It's not very hard, but this mod (together with lowering recaro seats), was a game changer in terms of seating position - you can now seat lower and further back and still have a steering wheel close to you.

the only drawback from this solution is that the extended steering column looks strange through front windshield with that huge gap, but to I don't really mind it to be honest.

Sharing suspension upgrade.

Old coilovers (KW V3):

New coilovers (Custom made 3-way, made using similar components to AST/Moton, but with even higher adjustability):

I'm starting with spring rates of 16kg front / 7 kg rear. Just in case that will be too soft, I bought extra set of springs (18kg front / 8 kg rear).

Will post an update after first track session.

Here is a video how badly KW V3 was performing on track, especially on slicks. KW is a great street suspension, but for serious track use I don't recommend it:

Also sharing radiator update.

After terrible experience with CSF, which only lasted about 1 year before it was blocked with fluid and only 50% of the surface area of radiator was actually working, I upgrade my rad to custom one. It was made in Poland and so far it has been extremely effective. I also made A/C unit a little smaller to make the rad even more effective.

In max attack mode, water stays at incredible 85°C/185°F. That results in engine oil also being much cooler. It's on different league to CSF or OEM. Here is an onboard with temp gauges:

How exactly did you pull out the steering wheel from the stock? I thought it was only adjustable up-down, not telescopic.

Steering rack is telescopic, just not adjustable out of the factory. I didn't do it myself, but from what my mechanic have told me, all he did was extend stock steering rack (100% it's telescopic) and he fabricated a bracket to lock it in the new, extended position. I'll ask him for more details and I'll post an update

Sucks KW never made ClubSport version for the Z34. I've heard people complaining V3 being too soft more serious track use.

I want to copy your cooling setup. I want to do boost at some point. I wonder how well those ducts would work with a bunch of intercooler piping.

Yes indeed. My friend has KW ClubSport on 350Z and that suspension is in completely different league to KW V3. Here is a video of how much better it performs:

https://youtu.be/vK4dH9uOYiE

Clubsport is a real deal. In opposite to KW V3, it's tuned on Nurburgring, it has much stiffer, linear springs and proper top mounts. Clubsport is well suited also for trackdays, while V3 is strictly street suspension

One of my friends with turbo 370Z copied my set up. Here is how it turned out. He did it over the winter so it's not yet been properly tested.

That's my car-build and i'm gonna to test it on the track during the year.
These vent's are not appropriate from the air-flow perspective (inlets in bumper should cover 33% of the cooler to be efficient). My plan is to test it first, then adjust if needed (it's easier to cut another hole than to remove it :P)

Sorry for the delay. I hadn't checked this forum in a while. It's a fully custom solution. In the picture below, I've highlighted the telescopic piece in the 370Z steering column. My mechanic mentioned that we need to rearrange the mounting points, but I'm not entirely sure what he meant by that. He has performed this modification on multiple 370Zs, and he assures me that it's a relatively easy job.

https://i.ibb.co/hmw7WTD/342061483-2...19784334-n.jpg

I recently discovered another great modification. Since I use 280mm wide slicks and have a caster close to -10, the steering felt extremely heavy. I couldn't operate the steering wheel as freely as I would have liked on the track, especially at higher speeds. Fortunately, the solution is simple. By running a constant current through the connector from the steering rack, power steering is always at 100%. The results are amazing. The car immediately feels much lighter, nimbler and sharper turns require less effort. I highly recommend this mod to anyone using slicks or with a high caster. Finally the steering has perfect weight to it.

https://i.ibb.co/RcP650R/s-l1600.jpg

As a bonus, I'm including my latest video. It was my first time trying out wet racing tires (Hankook W52). I bought them used, and they were quite worn out, but they still performed better in the rain than any street tire I could have imagined. Unfortunately, I also broke the rear camber arm as soon as it got dry and I switched to proper slicks (Hankook C52).
