Get on the waiting list with Fontana, but also keep in touch with people on here. I think you can transfer a reservation, rather than just forfeiting it for whomever to take. If you find someone who can't make it, you might be able to work with them.

i'll be there again this year. still cant do sun-sun based on limited vaca days for work. aldreay down a few from a ski trip and got a late summer vaca planned as well.

i'll be thursday first thing thursday morning until sunday like last year.

No reason not to go! There's plenty of time to register, and you should be able to find somewhere to stay. Call Fontana to get on the wait list, and keep an eye out on here to see if anyone's trying to get rid of a room.

What's the general consensus on how early to embark/have cruise plans been made?

Steve usually does a group drive down, usually its sunday to sunday though.. Im pretty sure. There will be a thread for it.

There are folks like me who are leaving on the Sunday prior. Others who don't have that much time will be leaving probably on Wed. or Thursday. Since Steve won't be making ZDayZ this year he won't be leading any cruise down later in the week, so any folks in the Mid-Atlantic area should start talking to one another if they want to caravan down together. Let others know what day your are planning to go and meet up to make the cruise down.

Just so folks have some idea of the time it takes to get to Fontana from Virginia, if you leave Fairfax at 6AM and average about 65-70 all the way, stopping for gas and lunch along the way, you'll pull into Fontana between 4:30 and 5:00PM.

So I gave the receptionist a good laugh when I asked for a 1 bedroom for Fontana 5 minutes ago :rofl2: I explained that I knew it was probably sold out and she politely put me on the waiting list.

I made my reservation for Tuesday 5/13 to Monday 5/19. I figure there's still time to work out when to leave/how long to stay.

(EDIT): If the majority are leaving Sunday to Sunday, I don't want to miss out on anything/have to deal with extra traffic, so I would do Sunday-Sunday.

Fontana will allow a transfer of a reservation, so if you can find someone who can't go, you can ask them to do that instead of giving it up to the wait list pool. Just keep watching and something is likely to come available. You may also want to call Fontana periodically, just to see if you can get lucky - it happens. Worst case scenario, you can probably find a sofa or air bed for a few nights. Everyone is real nice. Good luck, and hope to see you there!

Actually I'll still have enough leave after zdayz to do both haha.

If you are a outdoorsy type, they do have tent camping also. Dustin@Z1 did that last year.

A friend of a friend had an open spot in his cabin Wednesday to Sunday!
Combined with a room at the Lodge Sunday to Tuesday, I'm good to go! :tup:

Well, the cabin is full so I can't help there.
Don't mind sharing the Lodge room that I have Sunday (11th) to Tuesday (13th).

I may end up towing the Z and sleeping in the trailer. :( I'm not looking forward to that. Never depending on other folks for reservations again!

I may have an extra room at the lodge if anyone still needs accommodations.

It actually wasn't that bad to camp. Camp site is located at the base of the Dam. Crappy part about camping:

1) Long, sketchy walk drunk when trying to go back to the camp site from Fontana Village

2) The ground is pretty much solid rock with a 4" layer of dirt. Tent spikes are pretty much useless and impossible.

3) Bathroom facility is outdated. Expect the bare minimums as if you were camping.

On the upside, you do have peace and quiet.
