But even then it was $500 when it really hit stride so regardless people will pay.


Start next gen consoles at $800...let people complain and then drop the prices to $700. EVERYONE WINS

On the same token, I'd rather build my own beastly computer for the majority of my gaming and picking up a ps4 that's reasonably priced for gaming when people come to visit. More expensive consoles means more money spent on them and less on the computer, for me at least.

That's a fair argument. However the more powerful the consoles are the better the games are and that means that PC's will just go that much farther. But yeah $800 gets you a nice CPU/mobo/ram/psu/case/liquid cooler.

If that would work, Sony and Microsoft would be all over it. They pay a lot of people a lot of money to find the sweet spot.

Honestly, at $800, I'm building something myself for a whole range of reasons, particularly because I'm interested in customization when you are talking about that level of $$.

There's also some interesting dynamics that come into play at various points. A $400-500 console sees a lot of mass-production effect, and probably compares more directly to a $600 computer. An $800 console might look like an $850 computer, which doesn't exactly make a compelling case.

Honestly guys I wasn't trying to make a really serious comment. I was kind of being ridiculous. But I only mentioned that because it would make the pc gaming market grow in quality and graphics. Its just the pc elitist inside me getting tired of consoles capping us.
