You could always learn, it's not hard! I learned how to grill burgers from Jon the grill master at last year's BBQ. Marinating isn't hard though. All you do is mix the chicken with the sauce and let it soak in for a while.

eastwest2300 06-02-2013 08:32 PM

No promises buddy...

b1adesofcha0s 06-02-2013 08:34 PM

Actually, I think I will bring some halal chicken wings and BWW sauces. This way I can enjoy them too, since I can't have them at BWW. Dee you can just bring something else, whatever you're comfortable bringing. Remember guys, it doesn't have to be food. We will also need plates, utensils, napkins, drinks, cups, etc.

eastwest2300 06-02-2013 08:40 PM

Im gonna bring unthawed chicken... it'll be easier for me.

Don't worry about chicken dude, I got that taken care of.

eastwest2300 06-02-2013 08:47 PM

Dude, you can never have enough chicken, bring what you bring, and I'll bring what I'll bring.

From the park website:

Quote:

Picnicking at the William Houck Area

Picnic tables and grills are available near the lake area on a first come, first served basis. There are no cover pavilions or shelters in this area. Please remember to arrive early as the park often reaches capacity by mid to late morning on weekends, holidays and even some weekdays during the summer swim season.
Picnicking in the Manor Area

Picnic tables and grills are available on a first-come, first-served basis. A picnic shelter is available by reservation only. The shelter holds 150 people. The shelter was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) out of native stone many years prior to the installation of Route 15. It is recommended that you visit the shelter prior to making your reservation due to its proximity to the highway.
So it looks like, in order to make this work, we're going to have to have a couple people volunteer to get there early in the morning to snag a picnic spot. Even then, there will be no guarantees.

Well I'm gonna bring halal chicken, so I just didn't want them to get mixed up. I'd rather we make sure we get all of the different things we need rather than having an excess of one thing. From past experience, I think a lot of it will go uneaten so it's best not to bring too much. We already have kabos, burgers, chicken, snacks, and hopefully some crabs if Al is kind enough to bring them again.

Yeah I will try to get there early and hoping others can be there early too so we can get our spot.

Might this be a reason to run by a Sports Authority or Dick's and grab one of those pop up 8x8 or 10x10 stands? A "MAZOC" stand so we can hang the banner down there as well?

Just a thought...

Yeah, its good to have both types of chicken, some people may not eat halal chicken and would prefer regular old chicken..

I guess I'll explain for those who don't know what halal is. The difference between halal meat and regular meat is just how the animal is slaughtered. If the animal is slaughtered according to Muslim practices, then it is considered halal. It's usually cleaner and not as processed as meat from a regular grocery store. It doesn't taste any different. If you guys feel more comfortable eating non-halal meat then that is cool too. I'm just gonna bring some so that I can actually have more of the food that we will be cooking.

Enforces what, halal food? I'm sure there are some organizations that certify halal food products, but other than that it's just based off good faith.

So, is anyone willing to show at 8AM? If we get a volunteer or two I will probably be able to meet you up there at opening to help snag a spot.

I'm game for getting there early and helping hold down the fort.

Unfortunately, it's in MD, so I will have to leave my custom Z mounted 50 cal at the house in VA. When we are guarding the picnic spot, how do we know who to let in, no one has taught me the secret MAZOC handshake yet. :icon17:

I'll try to be there. I welcome all who are willing to join us to help get things set up. I think we'll put the start time for the rest of the group at 10 AM, but you guys can show up whenever you can make it. We'll probably be there till sometime in the late afternoon or evening, but no specific ending time as of yet.

m4a1mustang 06-02-2013 09:23 PM

Cool, I'm good with showing at 8am. We only need a small group to make waiting around not stink.

ZStig, if you're cool with going early we could probably coordinate and link up for the drive out there.

Count me in for early arrival. My chips will not spoil before the cookout.

I also have a small shelter that I use at the track that I will bring and 1-4 chairs.

Well, my drive is rather crucial (~2hrs form my house) so I was considering getting up somewhat early anyway. I was hoping to caravan with anyone that would be doing that but I am also down with getting there by 8:00 for when they open. In all fairness that just means leaving by 6 which is later than the time I leave for work 4 days a week.

Z Stig 06-02-2013 09:29 PM

Who's bringing the Jarts? :roflpuke2:

(Those are the "killer lawn darts" for you youngsters)

Vicster 06-02-2013 09:32 PM

I still don't see my name on dat ol' list on the front page! ;)

I bbq'd my share of halal last year.:yum:

Laura and I will be there.

Shahid, put us down for plates, utensils, mustard, ketchup, tomatoes, case of water.

I'm happy to pull grill duty again if you want. I can bring the grill utensils and a bag of charcoal. Let me know mate.

If you want to come at 8 that would be awesome. It's perfectly fine if you come later though. If anyone in MD wants to caravan there with me by 8 AM, we can organize it.

it just reminds me of when I used to sell flooring, lots of new products and manufacturers claiming "green" this "green" that, backed up by some foundation or agency, blah blah blah and at the end of the day you're not even sure if its any different than other stuff out there haha

Well assuming you buy directly from a halal butcher I'd say there's a pretty good chance you're getting halal.

In case it hasn't been mentioned before, no alcohol allowed.

I think MD categorized them as dangerous weapons and has outlawed them. :icon17:

Masa 06-02-2013 09:37 PM

Count me in to bring sodas.

I did put beer down earlier but alcohol isn't allowed. :(
