Directions

Location:
Occoquan Regional Park‎
Lorton, Virginia
(703) 690-2121

From I-95: Take the exit for 123 North (160 if headed on 95-South, 160B if headed on 95-North). Merge onto 123 North (2 right lanes) and continue towards Occoquan. Cross the bridge and make a right at the light at the top of the hill into Occoquan Regional Park.

Reference the map below to find our gazebo:

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-2...00/parkmap.jpg

There is a small parking lot (approximately 20-25 spaces) all the way at the end of the park road. It's the closest lot to the Gazebo. If this lot is full, there will be a gate that is closed right by the overflow lot I have referenced in the map. If you have to park there you can follow the path that goes by the baseball fields and makes its way to the Gazebo.

In for epic awesomeness

As far as dates go, we can do sometime in July since we already have a cruise planned for June. Last year's was in July too.

b1adesofcha0s 06-06-2012 02:00 PM

I'd prefer somewhere in MD, but only because it's closer to me :p

RandyD 06-06-2012 02:00 PM

I like the crabfest idea - which would mean the shore...

i also like the big park in Marshall, VA where we stopped at the end of the Tax Rebellion Cruise - lots of pavillions etc - plus good cruising roads.

The park we stopped at during the GTR cruise was also nice up outside of Frederick. (we'd need to pick better non-dirt roads)

Jays beach house... :stirthepot:

shadoquad 06-06-2012 02:01 PM

Crabfest is cool, but that doesn't necessary mean the shore. I can get a bushel of crabs and bring them anywhere.

Timing's going to be important, because I'm traveling at the end of July and beginning of August.

Perhaps it should be Virginia, since we did Sandy Point last year?

Also, goes without saying, anywhere we choose will have to have a large parking lot.

m4a1mustang 06-06-2012 02:02 PM

MD would be ok, but we were in MD last year. Maybe it's time for a VA BBQ. :p

Though I was thinking if we do it in MD again, somewhere EAST of the bridge would be nice. If we can find a spot on the water that is not Sandy Point state park it might be awesome.

FPenvy 06-06-2012 02:04 PM

either location of MD or VA is fine with me since i'm coming from pittsburgh anyways if i am free when you decide to do it.

crabfest and just regular picnic food sounds good as well

i'll be down in VA Beach (Sandbridge) august 3rd-11th i believe for vacation just fyi

b1adesofcha0s 06-06-2012 02:04 PM

Might as well alternate the BBQ locations like we do with the meets. The park where we stopped at the GT-R cruise in Frederick would be great too since it has a grill and a large covered area with plenty of seating.

m4a1mustang 06-06-2012 02:08 PM

VA parks are very nice. We can rent shelters/gazebos that have grills and plenty of tables. Rentals are around $150/day, though, so we'd have to split the cost.

m4a1mustang 06-06-2012 02:09 PM

Fountainhead Regional Park and Occoquan Regional Park are both very nice.

If we get as many people as last year, it probably won't end up costing that much per person.

m4a1mustang 06-06-2012 02:12 PM

It wouldn't cost much at all. The only problem I see is that it seems like all of these parks prohibit alcohol.

Cool, we could do a Virginia Park. I might even smuggle MD crabs across the border.

That wouldn't be a huge issue for me.

I think a lot of MD parks do, as well.

m4a1mustang 06-06-2012 02:15 PM

25x35' Gazebo with a 50 person capacity and double grill that is literally ON the Occoquan river. Pretty cool.

VA cops might pull you over for that.

the no booze thing would be a damper but most of us driving distances probably wont drink too much. i was thinking about stayin at my cousins in Alexandria VA since it's close to pretty much anywhere you guys decide on having this.

haha in your pants?? :shakes head:

m4a1mustang 06-06-2012 02:16 PM

Someone should try to find something in Eastern MD on the salt water, though. That would be cool.

FPenvy 06-06-2012 02:19 PM

how about Caledon Natural Area State Park. isnt that in MD? or is that VA

FPenvy 06-06-2012 02:20 PM

these are pretty cheap too. just checking the surroundings now.

That's south of most of us in Stafford VA. Not sure what facilities they have. And it's a PITA to reserve with the State. The Regional parks are much easier to work with.

There is Leesylvania State Park. Right on the water and has 4 large picnic shelters for rent. About 22 miles from Fairfax, and not far off of 95.

Here's the Gazebo in Occoquan that I am looking at.

Reservations

You can kind of tell how it's in a wooded area that juts out onto the river.

Leesylvania State Park

Also an option. Haven't been there in forever.

GM_Traitor3.5 06-06-2012 02:34 PM

Maybe the weekend of the 21st or 28th of July? Burke Lake does have some nice spots and I haven't been to Leesylvania State Park in years.

shadoquad 06-06-2012 02:37 PM

I'll be in Las Vegas on the 28th. I'm not bringing crabs from Vegas over night.

m4a1mustang 06-06-2012 02:39 PM

I think 21st or the saturday before that are the best dates in July. Gives us some lead time and probably isn't too late in the month to interfere with most of our travels.

not being selfish but closer to the first or second weekend in august would be great for me since i'll be down there and off of work lol

b1adesofcha0s 06-06-2012 02:39 PM

Oh crap, I almost forgot to mention something. Ramadan is starting somewhere around July 20th so it has to be before that or I won't be able to make it. I think the weekend of the 14th might be the latest safe date unless we go to the end of August.

Well... you might be depending on who your escort is while you're there :stirthepot:

Ugh can't you tell Ramadan to wait to start 'til the Monday after? :icon17:

I'll be at the beach the weekend of the 14th, but if that's the best date for everyone, it's all good.

What about the weekend of the 7th?

m4a1mustang 06-06-2012 02:42 PM

That's probably no good because of the close proximity to July 4th.

This. That would interfere with the Shado-Q which is for family and not people named Greg who drive roadsters.
