I got away with all kinds of **** there with my bike tagged in MD. Open exhaust, open air cleaners etc.. stuff Cali looks dn on.
I was in VXE-6 at Pt. Mugu, then the Weapons Test Squadron there. 92-97. When I got married, I moved in with my wife who lived in Topanga Canyon, so I got to all those cool canyon roads quite often.

I was attached to VX-5 (The Vampires) at China Lake in the Mojave. They combined VX-5 and VX-4 from Mugu and they are now VX-9 at China Lake. We did all the USN/USMC attack operational test and evaluation. If any Navy/Marine aircraft had an "A" in it such as A-6E, FA/-18, AH-1J/W we had them. Loved that tour!

Right before they merged with VX-4 to become VX-9. I flew the metroliner back and forth between Mugu and China Lake while I was at Weapons Test Squadron (formerly NAWC)

I seem to recall that when I was there VX-5 had a little cessna 172 that the squadron flew back and forth between Mugu. Sadly, they lost two Aviators when the 172 went down on a shuttle run. We also lost some folks when a Mitsubishi MU-2 went down on approach to Edwards just short of the runway. I remember one blue shirt PO1 survived and one other aircrew. Always a reminder of just how dangerous it is just doing daily routine ops.
