Who REALLY KNOWS about diamonds

So... The retard brother is going to marry the retard gf.

He wants to spend $30-40k JUST on the diamond.

Now, we got the 4C's or whatever, but lets not BS each other, a NORMAL person doesn't REALLY know what they're looking at. (I DO know that you're supposed to buy the diamond NOT in a ring.)

He WILL be buying a certified diamond, but is it easy to fake a cert? Do you NEED to take a scale with you? Do you need to take a diamond tester?

And he's either buying it from one of these brokers that comes to you and meets you up with 50 stones or a shop in Downtown where we have a family friend...

ANY help would be awesome and greatly appreciated!

Thanks again!
Andrew

Visit this website and go there, if your brother has 40K on just a diamond, this is where you should go, they will educate you on what to look for and help you find the best for your money. Their office is in downtown Long Beach. I used to work there few years back. Ask for Mark Schneider himself, a very good honest man, he is the owner and he will take care of your brother.

I recommend the legitimate business with store front, especially if it's a family friend.

Is there a particular reason for the budget? Does it just need to be large? Or does he want absolutely flawless characteristics? You can get a huge diamond with a lot of flaws for that much or you can get a much more reasonable sized one that is damn near perfect.

Also, the grades are very subjective. While you might look at two diamonds that are the graded identically, depending on the individual grading them, they might be very different in price because one has far more flaws. My experience with this is that the legitimate guys grade a lot tougher, so a gem that at first look appears to be lower quality might actually have fewer and/or smaller flaws than one from a traveling salesman that is graded higher.

We're with a broker right now and yeah, the headings so far seem retarded... No rhyme or reason behind them.

As for the budget, the guy's a dentist... Now, he COULD go by the 3 months of the salary rule... But I told him that I'd kill him if he did that, and thank god he said that was too much too

:iagree:DEpointfive0 My congrats to your brother for the committment:tup:. I'm sorry I can't provide more input on the diamond particulars, friend. For what it's worth, each time I do business any amount over $1000 with retailers, I conduct a sit-down with the store manager and specialist at the same time. I am a crude, heartless, uncharacteristically aggressive businessman. I just don't like people trying to pull the rape with my money:mad::mad::mad:.

My only recommendation is to grill your salesman and his boss. Even if you are not a diamond expert, be a "BS" expert and make them sweat. That much money for diamonds should have you at the top of their priority list, as opposed to a "next in line" kind of customer.

I don't know anything about diamonds sorry

30-40k for a rock... hmm.... :wtf2:

A 4 carat princess cut should look huge, and for the budget, you should be able to find one with good color and no noticeable flaws (to the untrained eye). An emerald or asscher cut will cost more (or be smaller) and may not look quite as large because of the chamfered edges, but they will have a much better sparkle due to more facets.

IMHO that is frickin' ridiculous. I've got a 1.7 karat ring (it was my grandpa's, my dad's and now mine) on my fat hand and it still looks huge.

A ring that huge is just asking to get rolled.
