haha yeah okay this makes more sense now, I'm in a similar boat.

I'll definitely (eventually) get PS4.

My only concern, so to speak, is that I haven't seen anything yet that makes the PS4 really seem like a giant leap forward (compare PS1 to PS2 and PS2 to PS3 -- HUGE improvements in graphics).

So far, PS4 games look pretty PS3ish to me. I'd need to see something truly amazing to have me really excited about it, as opposed to feeling tepid about it and dreading the price.

I won't be buying it at launch, that's for sure. I'll wait until there's at least one game I am hell bent to get -- nothing listed for launch really does it for me.

I think most launch games usually pale compared to the games at the end of a console's life cycle. I think part of it is just the learning curve for the new hardware and learning how to optimize it. The second part is probably just trying to rush a game out for launch.
I agree, nothing must have at launch. I just pre-order because I hate the time wasted looking for anything new. Destiny is what I'm waiting for and I want to be ready to play when it comes out and not looking for a console :)

I totally agree! I have seen nothing that is totally ground breaking and they have had 10 YEARS to develop these systems. I would love to see some new technology in the systems, even if it drives up the cost. At least give us the option for better models..

Options I would like to see...

-SSD Hard Drive (I am replacing the HD with a SSD on day one)
-4K Res for Gaming (PS4 only has it for video/picture viewing. This is obviously not a big deal now.)
-3rd party software allowed (XBMC would be sick!)
-Multi Display Support (Want to play GT and Forza over three monitors in my cockpit)

Sony tried adding everything people wanted before, it drove the price up too much and not everyone was willing to pay that much. My new PS3 pales compared to my launch PS3. At least you can swap the HD out on the PS4. I would of loved 4k for gaming, it would of given me a reason to buy a 4k tv lol. As you said, it's not that big of a deal now because the bump in specs required to support 4k gaming on disc space, video, and processor would of been huge and only a few people would of been able to take advantage of it. Sounds like you've got a pretty sweet setup for your racing games though.

Gamescon just around the corner. Here is a little tease:

Highlights include Microsoft announcing Open Development for Indie Game Makers (meh) and a possible official release day.

Sony is also expected to at least give a tighter window of release than "Sometime in 2013".

We can also expect both to give more release day titles and possibly a few more of the exclusive 15 titles Microsoft promised for the first years release.

I updated the first post to include new specs as well. Looks like Sony announced an official OS RAM usage number it is way more than 1G which if you remember I said was way to low even at DDR5 speeds. Looks like 3.5G for OS which actually leaves it .5G under Microsoft for developers. I think with Microsofts use of eSRAM it may be a little ahead of the PS4 now as far as RAM goes.

There's a follow up to the official press release notes.

There's another 1GB of flexible memory that's handled by the OS, but not dedicated to the OS. Which puts it .5GB more than the Xbox One. Which puts it near as makes no difference.

Found an interesting article about the specs.

Ya I read about that but I dont see developers even needing it. I just wanted to point out another bit of bad information that was floating around.

Going to try out the Xbox One at Raymond James Stadium when I get off of work today. I will report back with my thoughts after the event!

Voice59 10-13-2013 06:52 AM

I'm snatching up a bunch of both and tripling my investment when I sell them. Supply and demand baby!

Mr&Mrs 10-13-2013 06:57 AM

I have 5 XB1 and 4 PS4's coming on day one. Im afraid I will only make money off the PS4 though. Microsoft claims within a week anyone who wants a system can walk in the store and get one. Sony is calling for up to a 4 month shortage after release day.

Voice59 10-13-2013 07:14 AM

Very smart... For the Xbox's just wait an hour or so after the store sells out. There's no way they're going to have 1-200 Xbox's ready to sell on day one. You'll make your money there.

Voice59 10-13-2013 07:15 AM

Even if it is a week. Hardcore gamers want it that day. Especially if that week is right before Xmas.

Mr&Mrs 10-14-2013 12:04 PM

Well I guess I lied, I dont check times or days of events I leave that up to my wife. She is my little calendar/agenda book. Well no one is perfect the event ended at 1PM and I got off work at 4PM so, ya, I didnt get to try out the new system :icon17:

coolvans1988 10-15-2013 05:01 PM

Nice MC! I cant wait to get my Xbox Ones. It looks like most of my pre ordered games are shipping on the 15th, a week early for the Xbox One. I am picking up a few PS4's but I think im just going to sell all of them so I didnt get any games for it.

After the first of the year I will probably get one to keep and Killzone is on my short list to go along with it.

MC 11-08-2013 07:30 AM

for xbox one im getting Forza collectors edition and Killer instinct

im getting NFS rivals for PS4 but I wont be able to pick that up until midnight on the 14th when I get the system
