Ok, since I was so serious about buying those mirror yesterday, I've decided I can be serious about the oil cooler. I'm tempted to just buy Z1 25 row and call it a day. However, I'm looking at building the pieces myself, and it looks like I can either build one significantly cheaper or build a nicer one for the same price.

I really don't mind paying for higher quality (i.e. Setrab), but is it really worth it when compared to a Tru-Cool? I mean $50-$100 is way cheaper than $250-$350, plus ModShack vouched for the Tru-Cool. The entire order minus the core totals around $250 with nice hoses and all the fittings. I'm looking at the 25 or 36 row Tru-Cool for an additional $50 or more than doubling the price for the Setrab Series 9 20 row at an additional $280.

With a $200+ price difference, I'm open to any thoughts and perspectives :tiphat:

mr.jar- ok, i dont see the logic :icon17:, but the price difference is not $200.

your original budget for CS mirrors were like $550+ so 550 - 100 = you're saving $450!!!

that sounds like a logical choice.... well, that's if you really need an oil cooler. in my case, my oil never gets that hot so i'd be like adding a huge GT wing on my Z that only does speed limit. :D

kenchan 07-19-2013 10:32 AM

in other news, i got my tracking number for the star washers. :shakes head: so frikken expensive for 2 pieces of little metal shipped via USPS to splash tabasco onto the injury.

like flushing $17 down the toilet cause it will probably never arrive.

Kenchan logic =
:icon18:

I really need an oil cooler, which is why my decision to buy the mirrors was so illogical :icon17:

The offer I had on the mirrors was $500 shipped. The nicer oil cooler will cost a little more than that. With Tru-Cool, I will save about $200 in comparison. The things I like about the Setrab are: I know it's high quality, I like that I can get their mounting bracket if I don't fab my own, and I like the look of the wider Series 9 cores. The things I like about the Tru-Cool are: it's inexpensive.

I hit 225F oil temps minimum with just about any style of driving in temperatures greater than 70F (10+ months out of the year here in the Austin). I had to back off at the track when I hit 290F after just a few laps :ugh2:

you need several oil coolers, not just one! :icon17: with the $450+ savings, you can!

i think if you're willing to spend the extra time making brackets, the $100 will do just fine. those oil cooler kits you're paying for painted bits, pre-cut metal, instructions, labor, packaging, warehouse costs, etc. etc.

they probably only cost $75 to make. :icon17:

Ok, I decided to buy a turbo kit and then changed my mind. Since I just saved $10K, I'm getting oil cooler, RJM clutch pedal, replacement pedal pads, FI CBE, some sort of intake manifold when more are on the market, Carbon Signal steering wheel, Pioneer AVIC HU, speakers, amp, and subwoofer

Whose Marti? I was looking at kits, but thinking about DIY it either cheaper or better. What do you think: $65 for 36 row Tru-Cool or $250+ for 20 row Setrab Series 9 core?

Hey jar IMO save the time, trouble and frustration of piecing one together yourself. I say buy the Setrab and be rest assured that it is tried and tested by a reputable company.

I can't find any kits with the Series 9 core. Plus the hoses and fittings are recommended by ModShack
