Default Dog in trunk? need dog lovers advice

So I've been considering getting a dog, primarily a lab, but i was wondering if anyone has put their dog in the trunk? and if a fully grown lab would fit back there? it seems like there would be space if the dog would be seated.

OFF TOPIC... Any dog recommendations?
Id like a lab, or something like a mid-size dog. My only problem is that i can get fairly busy during the day and labs seems to need a lot of attention.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..... In the trunk of the Z? Cause no it would not fit. We have a daschund and she runs back there sometimes and forgets its cramp jumps up and hits her head on the glass. So no a full grown lab would not fit.

And if this is for any other car you should not a dog should not be in the trunk. Maybe you should consider a hamster?

I have a < 20 lb miniature schnauzer who fits back there perfectly. I'm not sure a larger dog would fit back there except maybe lying down the whole time.

Here's a before/after pic from our most recent trip to the groomer's:

hamster?
It will be my first dog, I've wanted a lab since i was a kid. So i decided to do my HW on dogs and ask around a few questions. Since we only have 2 seats and the trunk is a hatch, i thought if the dog fit back there then it wouldn't be so bad.
so thanks for the input

never tried putting our lhasa apsos back there... cause of my 12" sub lol. It just sits on my wife lap whenever we go places. Far as a Lab..I think that will be too big to put back there.

If I put my Lab in the back of the Z, her claws would rip the living **** out of everything south of the seats.

You are correct, Labs are the BEST dogs. But they need a lot of room. I have a beater car, a 96 Camry. The back seat folds down and that is what I use when I take my two dogs with me.

No way you can fit a lab in there. I have never even considered putting my husky (bit smaller than a lab) in the trunk. It's really, really cramped and where's the fun for the dog when there are no windows for it to stick its head out?

For short trips, there should be enough room for all but the largest dog to lay down in the hatch area but I wouldn't want to keep a big dog cooped up back there for very long. A lot depends on how well the dog handles cramped quarters - some do better than others. Also keep in mind that it's liable to be quite warm under the rear window when the Sun is out.

I bought a cheap seat cover for the passenger seat and my dog (Australian Cattle Dog, approx 35 lb) rides there. The ppl that clean my car complain about the hair. I guess I should have gone with a car that doesn't have an all-black interior.

I can't be much help as far as breed choice goes but I'm very glad that you care enough to find a breed that fits your lifestyle and are not basing your decision on cuteness. There are several web sites that can help you select a breed.
