He did leave a large impression with me; to this day I can't buy into anyone or any group's ideology as a whole and I am very skeptical about most things. ...at this very moment: "hymn to him" from johnny mac's 'apocalypse' masterpiece. 19 minutes of sumthin' most haven't heard collectively (in one muzak piece)...bass gitter/funk/lightenin' gitter/strings via london symph. orch./strings via jean-luc ponty/mikey walden on drums (chk out his fusion masterpiece "garden love light"...)

this an incredible album to wake up one's ears and (sonic) senses...

^^^ I don't know that call him a "genius" either... he has a weird "doomsday prepper" vibe about him.

He's tough to measure... I'm thinking very high functioning ASD maybe. He's a talented oddball, but waaaay out there. I think what he says and does and sings are only a tiny glimpse of his inner kookiness.

That said, I love his work with the Dead Kennedys (lukewarm on his more recent stuff, tho' -- he and East bay Ray need to make up).

I love his lyrics and his voice (harrowing vocals are kind of my thing it seems -- Gordon Gano of Violent Femmes had a voice that is the quintessence of this, at least to my ear).

Jut wondering what in particular made you think he was an idiot? I think he's more crazy than stupid, but its a fine line to be sure.

Machine Gun Etiquette is one of my favorite albums, FWIW.

Have gotten to se them twice live -- they are still awesome.

I have a very good friend who is a HUGE Damned fan, but all of their later overwrought too many ruffles and sad feelings is un-listenable to me.

How do you go from Ball Room Blitz or Rabid to Grimly Fiendish (retch) or Alone Again Or (dry heave).

Watched Decline of Western Civilization I - III this past weekend. I and III are good (III s a bit sad); II is filler except for the hilarious commentary by Ozzy and Lemmy.

I has fantastic performances by Fear, Black Flag (voiced by "Chavo", my 2nd favorite vocalist after K. Morris), Germs, and also a few bands I'd not heard of before (Alice Bags?)

Also, some great performances by X, including this...

It's kiss or kill (I might change my sig comment to that...)

Growing up here in L.A., I got to see all those bands (and more) just about every weekend. There was a club called The Starwood where they all played, FEAR, The Germs, Black Flag, The Adolescents, Dead Kennedy's, The Gears, Sticky Fingers and of course, X. I must've seen them 20+ times back in the day. I last saw them at the Roxy a few years ago, just before Ray Manzarak died.
