i use garbage bags in layers and tie them up while trash adds up so the smell isn't too bad. like for stuff that could smell (meats, veggie peel) my wife and i place them in those clear plastic bags they have at the produce and meat sections at the super market and tie them up. then put them in the grocery store bags, then tie them up..then into the garbage bag. it keeps my garbage bins clean too.

i hate folks that toss banana peel directly into trash bins.
