agreed man. I had replaced both on my G and they lasted the entire time I had the car (2.5-3) years.. But I honestly have no idea where I got them from.

Where did you hook it up to? What troubleshooting have you done?

Do you have the Nissan Fog light, or the EVO-R?

I bought the ones from the AK DIY link and haven't had any problems yet. Been on since May.

The connectors are kinda of crappy. The LED bulbs work fine, but they aren't keeping good contact and were cutting out. I'm not interested in getting pulled over because my license plate bulbs were finicky, so I just went back to the stock bulbs temporarily. I plan to fix the connectors myself.

Right now its just chrome. I am going to finish it with Dupli Color Shadow for a black chrome finish. I am hoping it will be a nice subtle finish

Well I got 10 for about $7 shipped vs the $15 for 2. I didn't have any trouble installing the exact same bulbs in my interior, but when I did it for Tracie, the hatch and one of the map lights gave me a hell of time getting the wire to connect properly. As I mentioned, I've got an idea for creating a much larger contact surface area for the LEDs.

I hooked it up to the license plate light wiring. I haven't done any troubleshooting cause I didn't want to start anything this late. I just wrapped the wiring and tucked it back up there. In hindsight, I should have at least pulled out a 12V battery and tested it.

Neither. I have the JARblue custom fog light :icon17: It's just a 48 LED panel I installed inside the dummy housing that came stock

When I pulled up the link, it seemed really familiar to me and I think its the same place I bought the ones I use in my other/previous cars. They never gave me any problems.

Have you checked all the (3) fuse boxes to make sure you haven't just popped a fuse with the increased load?

Nothing yet but because I don't have them come on, I probably wouldn't notice anything for a while. I'll try to remember.

Pics are in my album.. link in my signature

Well, first, I verified the circuit could handle the extra LED panel prior to starting my project months ago. There's plenty of headroom to power some LEDs  Second, I didn't bother to check the fuses because the license plate lights work just fine.

Something isn't working, right? So that's the first place I'd check.

XwChriswX 02-18-2013 12:28 AM

So is that the OEM Foglight blank? Cause mine didn't have a red lens, it had a blackened blank nothing?

It's just the wiring to the LED panel that is inside my fog light housing. Like I said, I should have pulled out the 12V battery to test it just to make sure the panel is still working properly. I just tucked the wiring away since it's no longer connected; luckily, it's easy to get to so I can take a look at it tomorrow after work.

Fair enough. Which light panel did you decide to go with since I see 3 different ones in your pics.

Yup. OEM dummy housing has a red lens that has been smoked on the exterior. When I took it apart, you could clearly see the red lens on the interior. I masked off a Z and spray painted the rest of the interior of lens black with Krylon Fusion.

They were all the same brand (or at least from the same retailer/ebayer - I can't remember where I got them a long time ago). The ones in the pictures are 12, 24, and 48 LED. I ended up just going with the biggest one. You know how we Texans think big  :icon17:

Interesting, I went with the EVO-R one myself and love it. When I took the blank out, I didn't even think to keep/look at it in dept.

Are your LED's and their wiring water proof? Is the blank sealed? That might be something to look at?

Hmm. eBay is spotty with things like this, but that's good you got them all from the same place.

I did think about that. Several notes on my install: I was able to use an existing tiny hole in the back of the housing, which originally had a black rubber cap on it. I removed the cap, ran my wiring, and replaced the cap. It still provides excellent protection and probably wouldn't allow water in unless completely submerged. The only other way water might get in was if I didn't do a good enough job sealing the lens back onto the housing, but I'm pretty sure it's just fine. The last precaution was I actually installed the panel on the roof of the housing, so it points down. I also like this because you can't see any of the LEDs through the lens.

JARblue 02-18-2013 12:42 AM

Note that I had to remove the wiring for the fog light when I was messing with the license plate lights. The fog light was working just fine up until that point. I have no reason to believe that it is damaged in any way. I just think I need to rewire, which I want to do properly and permanently this time.

:shakes head: :icon18:   Some maybe... not all :icon17:

All of them were previously installed and worked for several years  I have had good luck even with the cheap LEDs on ebay. Even the problems I've had are fixable with a little ingenuity.

:tiphat: Solid glow FTW. Honestly, one of the reasons I don't like the EVO-R fog light is because it looks like the individual LEDs are so obvious. Is that really the case?

IKR!! Luckily, I've found spray paint, which is very accountant/wife-friendly and can satisfy that recurring desire for moar mods. I'm just trying not to go overboard - if I'm not careful, everything on the car inside and outside might wind up KAD :bowrofl: :shakes head:

I will take some pictures tonight for you with mine on. I have the EVO-R Smoked lens since I thought it looked better than the Red on a black Z. Plus, when it's not on, it blends in with the body so you forget its there.

I wouldn't recommend plasti-dipping wheels personally, since it could peel from chipping/debris...
