Well, supposedly my HFCs and CBE are due in today, so I get to borrow a truck to pick up that stuff, then I'm going to have an "install party" for my buddy and his wife's anniversary (I joked about it and got a serious, "Let's do it" response) and make her bake us cookies (that's all she can really do). :icon17:

Of course, I'll pay for food/drink since they are helping me out.

Kind of excited to hear what it's going to sound like.

Happy Weekend :woot:

Unless he's changed it, but I was reading his thread about it.

I was originally going to have a shop install this stuff for me, as I don't have the proper tools or patience to do it, but my friends do and they offered - so I'll spend about $30-40 on food/drink vs. $100 for the shop to install.

CBE seems to be straight forward, but the HFC and those demon bolts are what make me wary.

hope your friends' tools are high quality. Also, Don't use an impact on hfc install.

Yeah, I read that about the impact.

I'll have to ask them about their tools. I've warned them over and over that many-a-tool has been broken by these bolts. :eekdance:

kenchan 04-05-2013 02:55 PM

yah, some folks just go to town with impact guns...potentially breaking or weakening fasteners. :ugh2:

gurneyeagle 04-05-2013 03:13 PM

Finished a total detailing on the Z. Now parked on the couch watching Mecum and Barrett-Jackson.

LunaZ 04-05-2013 03:15 PM

Noticed the neat patterns of soot on my car after yesterday's run up to coal country.

onzedge 04-05-2013 03:22 PM

I think I am going to wrap up one more thing for work and then call it a week. I am off to Minnesota again Monday. Yay.

Washing all the bugs off the 370 this afternoon sounds good to me.

it's not just the fasteners, impacts are almost guaranteed to break the o2 sensors which is an expensive replacement part.

kenchan 04-05-2013 03:40 PM

yep, including adjustable dampers.

Impact wrenches huh? Let's see, oh yeah at last count, 18 rounded off lug nuts and five ruined studs by the garage that installed my rotors and calipers in December. :ugh2:

Pintsize725 04-05-2013 03:48 PM

Someone make my paint cure faster. :crying:

I am very happy to go there -- the work I am doing is mentally taxing, but rewarding and they listen to me which means they may map out and set everything up correctly. This flying all over the place gets a bit tiring though. I found an excellent Japanese restaurant near where I stay and my client has not complained yet about my somewhat extravagant dinners I put on my expenses, so...

:ugh2: yikes, mr. gurney... another reason why i use my 18v driver instead of impact guns for wheel swaps to speed up the loose part of winding. everything else is by hand. :)

 yes, traveling by air gets old very fast.

 on finding nice restaurant. it's aways nice to have something to look forward to while going on a biz trip. :yum:

LMBmikeZ 04-05-2013 03:56 PM

Haboob - Make sure you use lots of WD-40 and let it soak for 10-25 mins and reapply, maybe 2-3 times and it will come apart a lot easier  also go to a surplus or local hardware store and buy a ratchet extension approx 18-24" long for a 1/2" drive ratchet then you should have no problems (if you have a 1/2' drive ratchet)

That's how I did mine with the help of one friend, no broken tools or bolts  if you use a 3/8" drive ratchet then it might break :ugh2:

I'll use the impact on lug nuts but just to speed up the process. I torque them down by hand. and I do not use it on anything else really.

kenchan 04-05-2013 04:05 PM

yep, i have a 18v cordless impact i use on my dd's lugs, but never on my G or Z's wheels/lugs. :)

LMBmikeZ 04-05-2013 04:06 PM

Should note the extension should be relatively cheap $10-30 depending on where you shop. Also the solid 1 piece extension will be 10x stronger then piecing together a bunch of smaller extensions

Haboob 04-05-2013 04:38 PM

Well, FedEx says it's delivered, :excited: but they left it at my front door (I thought they were going to require a signature, per the vendor).

Now I'm worried that someone's going to steal my packages, as it's happened before. :eekdance:

LMBmikeZ 04-05-2013 04:39 PM

any way someone could go grab them for you that lives close by?

kenchan 04-05-2013 04:42 PM

i would leave early and place them a safe place. :)

but those boxes are huge like furniture so you might be safe.

time to get ip cameras installed. :icon17:

LMBmikeZ 04-05-2013 04:45 PM

:iagree: IP cameras FTW

I need to do a couple in my new place.

I helped a friend set his up last summer he has them at both his home and cottage

I've often thought about it. How much does something like that cost?

I wish, but the only person close by can't leave where they're at. I'm hoping they're big enough that someone won't try. I'm off in 15min anyways (hurry up 3:00!!), so I'll race home, safely.

LMBmikeZ 04-05-2013 04:47 PM

If you are DIY'er the biggest cost factor is the quality of cameras you want to go with

obviously you also need to figure out how many cameras

BajaZ 04-05-2013 04:50 PM

three more hours until im off work !! have a good one everyone . . . good luck on installs !!

I'd probably just do one by the front door. Should be pretty simple, no? Mount camera, run cable to router/computer, setup software?

LMBmikeZ 04-05-2013 04:51 PM

yep basically all there is to it

Haboob 04-05-2013 04:52 PM

Alright, I'm bailing early. I shall return to the forums tomorrow (OT weekend work, woo hoo!).

it doesn't cost much. my cameras are anywhere from $150 to about $300.

you do need to be somewhat fluent with computers to set one up securely for the networking side, but if you dont care too much (like someone tracking your every move) it's pretty easy to setup.

and you can install ip camera viewers for free on your smartphone. :)

i recommend getting the stuff from amazon so you can return it if it doesnt work out for you.

and the cameras work pretty well at night even without night vision if you have enough porch lighting.
