:iagree: I'm waiting for some kind of rain. the area I live in has been over salted in March when we had barely any snow. Because of that, the salt is still everywhere. Drive just 10 minutes away and those areas are mostly salt free :shakes head:

yah, we had some rain last saturday so i thought it might be enough, but it was scattered so some of the areas didn't get a drop... i drove over it and was pita to clean up. :ugh2:

i want to use up the old gas in my G and Z. the G's last fill was halloween... i did use stabil this time though. for the Z no stabil and last fill was thanksgiving.

This morning was my first commute in the new daily driver. Such a relief to spare the Z from the war zone that some of Houston's streets can be. I actually love the little Matrix. It's nice to go back to a bare-bones car; reminds me of my first few cars back in the 70's - 1977 B210 and a 1979 Civic. It also makes you appreciate the Z even more.

Hope everyone has a great day. I've got HR training classes all day. Rah!

Back to lurk mode. :tiphat:

Might as well just go for plastic dip, it'll be hard to see the difference between dip & wrap since it's such a small part and you don't look at it from 4 inches away all the time.... :icon17:

ms. pint - simplify your life, reduce your stress, and go with PlastiDip!

It is hands-down the best thing to paint the fang area with - chip resistant, easy to touch-up, and can be removed when you decide it's time for a change.

I used it on my car and love it.

i hate plastidip. :icon17: over spray made a hell of a sticky mess in my garage when i tried it. as a huge stress to remove all the sticky from my Z, G, and tool case, etc.

after that ordeal, when i had to plasti dip a black power cord for my ip camera white, i went to the middle of the field to spray it. like a 1/4 mile away from my house and 3ft away from a car owned by someone i hate. :icon17: hahaha jk

sounds like a very solid plan you got there!

for the smaller bits like your sides and a-pillar, you might be able to get away just using generic roll of clearbra. :) it's not really hard to install, just need to keep your fingers wet when you're touching the adhesive side, and use soapy solution, soft squeegee, sharp scissors. i do clearbra install in my garage at home. :icon17:

was thinking i might do the front bumper this summer. not sure yet. i only have one sesame sized mark from a rock in the last 4yrs of ownership.

Huck 04-02-2013 11:18 AM

So here's my modding logic. I have a crappy Sony xplod 12" sub in the car that sounds decent with a little kicker 400w amp pushing it. I really like alpine type R though, and since I have alpine type r component speakers I want the sub to match. The sub I want is 1000w rms though, which means I would need a bigger amp to run it, which means I would need another amp for my speakers so they could keep up, which means I would probably want to get some 3.5" speakers for the rear, which means I would have to run new wires to the rears, and while I'm at it I might as well just get a 7" touchscreen, which means I'll probably just go ahead and get a backup cam at the same time, which means I'll have to pull the hatch apart to wire it, and since I've got the hatch apart I might as well just install a Z1 foglight while I'm at it, but I'll get the smoked one cause I like white/black contrast which means I'll need to pull my brake lights and smoke them, which means I'll need to do my headlights as well so they can match, which means I should probably do something to my side signals too, but I don't want to start messing with those and not have the front lip and CF hood to set it all off so I'll need to go ahead and buy that as well, which means I'll need to go ahead and buy the wheels and tires I want since I can't be rolling around with stockers when I have all this other stuff, which means I'll need a top of the line alarm system do my shìt doesn't get jacked when I'm rolling through the good. A $250 sub just became like $8000 worth of parts and a week of work.

Fūck.

mr.alcheng- some diy info to read while you wait for product to arrive.

Installation 3M Clear Bra Paint Protection Tampa, FL

this store, i think (but best to check), only sells xpel. but from one of the xpel sponcers of this site, i think he mentioned that the self-heal ones end with a part number with -U.

so if you're into that stuff, you can try ordering from autopaintguard. :)

one thing to note though, the last xpel i did on my Z's rockers yellowed within 2yrs. it couldve been old stock, not sure. the xpel i did on a dark blue car in the past had no visible yellowing even after 6yrs.

kenchan 04-02-2013 11:23 AM

oh, and one thing to note about clearbra install... it's normal to pull and stretch the bra a tad when doing the bumper. they will be pre-cut a tad shorter on purpose and you pull on it to reach the ends.

after a while, it's easier to just get a generic roll and cut as one applies it, and tuck the ends into the nooks or over the fender or bottom panels. just a fuller, cleaner install that way.
