Only did the front bumper, doors, a pillar, side skirts, hatch and rear fenders. It all feels smooth but I was really hoping to get rid of some marks. No dice. Lots of tiny spots disappeared but it also seems like a lot of different ones appeared afterwards.

Oh and I'm over it. Stupid hatch has a cracking paint spot like the hood.

Pint did you use enough detail spray. I use a lot because otherwise the clay will create thin marks/scratches.

Yeah, I used plenty. These are tiny spots like the dirt specs were relocated. But holy dirty hatch! Took me forever to do it and I'm still not happy with the results.

Discount Tire closed at noon today :icon14: (website says 5 pm), so I did not get new tires. Borrowed my dad's Rav4 to get a Christmas Tree - I got it in the stand and put up the lights and Melody did ornaments  His car was filthy, so I gave it a wash for letting me use it to get the tree. Also washed Melody's Acura. Just got back from the store, got food in the oven, and getting ready for a Festivus party  Enjoy your Saturday evening everyone :tiphat:

I am wondering how good a job they did on that "handwash" you paid for... The clay shouldn't be picking up ridiculous amounts of dirt and depositing them elsewhere. If it is, the car needs another wash or you are just using the clay for too long before folding it over.

I'm probably not doing it right. Oh well. It's still not getting rid of any scuff marks or what look like bird crap spots.

I really doubt that; it's just not that difficult. And frankly, clay isn't really supposed to get rid of big scuff marks or anything. It is designed to get some of the more stubborn dirt and grime out of the clear coat so that the wax can go on the cleanest surface possible.

:iagree: you need cutting polish to get light scuffs and bird droppings out  then fallow it up with either one or tow grades of finishing polish to clean it up real nice!

Well what the heck removes scuffs and possible bird poo marks?

the clay will remove most of the dirt on the surface, but then you need to do a quick wash, then re-apply wax on the surface.

Also, make sure you fold & knead then flatten the clay bar when the clay bar gets dirty...

LMBmikeZ 12-08-2012 05:35 PM

also might want to get a DA polisher if you are getting into detailing your Z, they work awesome and make work easier when using polishes

blackcherry20 12-08-2012 05:38 PM

^^^all sounds way too much like work^^^^lol-of course next spring i'll be looking for any excuse to fuss over my Z:tup:

Clay won't remove scuff or scratches, and if you don't clay the surface correctly, you might end up with more swirls...

Sounds to me like you need a proper paint correction performed with a Porter Cable (or similar) random orbital polisher.
