Just don't get sucked into the hype about loading birdshot for self defense because it penetrates walls less. The bottom line on that crap is anything that doesn't penetrate interior walls also won't slow down a determined aggressor. Just gotta learn the layout and know which directions you can safely shoot, and weight the risks properly. #1 buck usually comes up best in self-defense-oriented ammo tests for shotguns.

.223/5.56 NATO out of a "Black Rifle" will generally penetrate typical home interior walls less than most handgun and shotgun ammo. Many people tout the 5.56 NATO round as a better home defensive round for that reason.

Yeah I am not planning on using birdshot for a defensive load.

Just picked up my 870 yesterday, along with a variety of shells to go with it. Need to get out and shoot it sometime in the near future. I'm ordering some accessories for it... collapsible & folding stock, fore-end with rails, surefire mount, shotshell holder, etc.

My scary S&W .500 moment on Fathers' Day:
and if you don't know what a .500 is..... ![]() Except we were shooting 700 grain loads. (there are 7000 grains in a pound... so 10 of these bullets (bullet, not the shell, powder, primer) is a pound!) The 700 grain looks like a shotgun slug. Huuuge.

![]() ![]() ![]() -Breaching barrel -Picatinny rail -SightMark QD Ultra -Collapsible ATI Stock -Fore-end Strap -Shell SaddleBag (only three shots there cuz I need to go buy more lol) I wanted to get another eotech... but thought (wow I'm not made of money....) and went with another brand. I took a bit of a gamble getting this reddot (original price 150. I found it for 100 after sum intense googling lol). This SightMark has held up to several hundred rounds of 12g. Keeps zero pretty darn well, but I can honestly say it is no eotech. But then again neither is the price. Its a reflex sight, not a holo.

How do you like the ATI stock? Im reading mixed reviews on ATI in general. I only paid like 350 for the gun so honestly I don't care if I have designer **** on it or not, Ijust want it to work and be reliable.

it hurts.... lol. Not forgiving at all. If you want an awesome shotty stock, blackhawk is where its at IMO. I have shot the blackhawk stock and its felt recoil is minimal. But the ATI... man you feel it all haha. But its cheap so, I guess thats the upside
