So anyone here :excited: for the third installment of Diablo less than one month away? Anyone have any feedback on the beta?

We'll I guess I get to start. First, I'm addicted to the Diablo series. I used to be a big PC gamer in/after high school, but it seems that Diablo 2 was the only game that really stuck with me after I stopped gaming a number of years ago. To my shame, I still have two active D2 accounts, 15 loaded chars between them, 6 of which are ladder chars. I haven't really played them in over a year, but I still make sure to keep them active and do some mf runs every so often. If anyone wants some free gear, PM me :D

I got hooked up with a D3 beta key very early on Patch 3 (currently on Patch 18). The beta maxes at level 13 and the few people I know who had a key tired of it very quickly. I have played it regularly and have really enjoyed the changes as Blizzard has continued developing the game in its final stages. Like, I said I'm addicted.

Skills are completely different, but I think the system has good potential. You basically have the ability to completely switch up your attack and defense skills any time you want. To discourage this in the heat of battle there is a short cool down period before you can use your newly changed skill. There are also a series of runes for each skill. These runes can be selected with a click of a button, just like choosing your skill. The rune effects vary from extending range or adding damage to completely changing the skill (e.g. at one point there was a wizard skill that shot a freezing beam of ice across the entire screen but with a rune it became a swirling ice storm encircling your char in a medium radius). I really like this ability to switch up your attack strategically when encountering enemy bosses.

Auction House is excellent, especially since you can switch currencies between in-game gold or blizzard bucks, which can be exchanged for games, accessories, or even cash money on battle.net. I didn't play WoW, so I don't have much prior experience with AH, but it seems awesome. The beta AH goes down regularly, but Blizzard is constantly doing maintenance so its to be expected. I fully expect it will be ready for launch.

Item drops are ALL YOURS. Each char gets their own drops only seen on their screen, so no more scrambling for uber rare items against 7 other players. And no more clicking on gold :tup: Just run over it with you char. Items can increase your pick up radius, too.

There's lots more I could say, but I'll leave it at that and wait for some responses. :tiphat:

A few humorous side notes: my wife calls D2 the cow game cause when we first started dating she would show up while I was in the middle of a cow run with the sound up and all the cows going Moo Moo, Moo, Mooo, Mooooo (hold on, almost done babe :bowrofl:) On the beta game loading screen it has some text that is usually a helpful hint. But there is one message, which I showed my wife and she bust out laughing. It just says "There is no Cow Level". :bowrofl:

I have been playing the beta... and I don't wanna spoil anything, but it's pretty legit... I already have my retail rcopy downloaded, just waiting for it to become active

wait, so it has a release date now? i thought it wasnt coming out until the year 3682? no seriously, they have been claiming to be "near completion" for like five years. i use to check blizzard and follow updates on an app i downloaded, but eventually got disgusted with all the *ss dragging about it, so i deleted the app and gave up on it. figured i would die before they decided to let it go. where did you find out about the release, and what is the release date?

I also was in the beta , and Demon hunter is gonna be beast muauhaa :) can't wait game is legit ( so is guildwars 2 !)

Release date is May 15th. FYI it is open beta starting today - so they can stress test the servers some more. If you have a valid BNet account you can have access to beta until the release.

Looking forward to it as well. I used to be a big D2 gamer -- I remember them nerfing mana drain equip and my barbarian could no longer whirlwind its way through crowds lol.

I've actually held off getting a new computer until I knew the system requirements for the game. I'll likely pick up a new comp at the same time I get the game.

i was in early beta.. its fun no doubt. Playing again now that my brother has access to open beta weekend :tup:

If you already have a Battle.net account (i.e. for Starcraft or WoW), then you just log int to your account and go to Games info. Then you can download the D3 installer that will install the beta. If you don't have a Battle.net account, I don't know if you're eligible, but I suspect if you create a new one they will let you play. You will have to have one to play the full retail version anyway, so you might as well create one if you plan to buy it.

i have an account on my d2 game, but i doubt i can access it there. is there a place to log in on battle.net? or blizzard.com? didnt try yet, hardly any time for computer lately. thanks

It's not the same as your D2 login. Go to Battle.net and create a new account. In addition to downloading the D3 beta, you will be able to add D2+LoD expansion to your list of games using the serial numbers you have for them. This also gives you access to an online installer in case you ever lose the discs or serial number.

My wife bought me the Collector's Edition for Christmas, but it just shipped today and not schedule for delivery until Saturday :(

Any other day, I would just buy the digital copy online, but I am shelling out $$ for a new R2C intake today. :tup: Won't really have time to play until this weekend anyway, so I'll just be waiting until Saturday.

OK cool. Now I gotta pick up a nice laptop to play it on. Any recommendations?

I would be happy to chat with you about a laptop regarding specs vs budget. Luckily, the video requirements for this game are very minimal in comparison to other games released in the past two years. Any sort of gaming laptop should be just fine. Even non-gaming laptops with upgraded video capabilities should be fine. Just stay away from the very basic laptop video chipsets such as the Intel GMA series.

I can't even imagine playing D3 on a laptop. I built my own computer last year and going that path is more than affordable. What's your budget?

Gateway has some $600 machines at Best Buy that would be more than enough to run this game at decent quality settings. However, a 15" screen is quite small when you're used to a 32" (which I just downgraded to a higher quality 27"). The main component missing on a laptop is nice mouse, but external wireless ones work fine.

I build all my own machines and sometimes my work machines, too. A $1000 will build a pretty spiffy machine that often costs upwards of $2000 from any brand name manufacturer.

laptops are pretty powerful these days if you get a good mid to high end one.

damn...i just realized i need to rebuild my computer for MechWarrior when it comes out this summer. :(

i will probably play d3 later on, i'm going to let it settle in for a bit. i'm not overly competitive about it, so i'm kinda bleh about getting a new game right now.

i'm saving up for MechWarrior Online and Guild Wars 2 now.

I'm looking for a 15". Most of the time while playing I will either have it connected to an external monitor or my TV and a USB mouse. $1000 - $1300 or so is right around my price range. I'm mostly concerned about the laptop having a decent enough graphics card since the processor specs are a generation old

no I got a free copy(legal) but when I tried to install it gets hung up on the launcher.. apparently it's effecting like 50% of the people who have the downloaded version lol

I fully expected the servers to be ridiculously overloaded today if I needed to download it. However, I purchased an R2C intake instead, so I just have to wait for my shipment this weekend.

The collectors edition comes with DVD, soundtrack CD, and soulstone-looking usb stick :rofl2:

I was able to use the following laptop to play D3 Beta without any issues (graphics was smooth, pretty sure all was set to high):

I downloaded the starter edition just to get going the other night... it was basically the beta minus auction house :bowrofl::shakes head:
