^^ as long as your computer meets the minimum stats, you can avoid installing via the DVD by simply signing up for battlenet and using the gamekey to download it from Blizzard.

^^ Don't know why an outdated direct X would prevent you from installing via the DVD ...

Anyway, once you've bought the game, there's nothing else you have to pay for. Battlenet is free (in fact an account is required to play the game) and once you've associated your gamekey with your battlenet account, it doesn't matter how you get the game onto the computer -- DVD install, dl from Blizzard it's all the same. I was just saying that if it was your DVD player on the wonk that was keeping you from installing, it doesn't cost anything extra to simply download it from Blizzard.

upgrade to directx 9?!?!?!!?!? are you kidding me? dude how old is your computer???? directX 9 was originally released in 2002! There's no way you're playing any games on that thing. I really hope you're just confused.

He probably has to update to DirectX 9c. Just search up Directx 9.0c in Google and download/install it. After that, I suggest going through Zagg's route and creating an account on Battle.net, log in, and register your CD key so you can download the game client from there as opposed to installing it via CD/DVD.

It would also help if you posted you computer's stats on here.

I installed it on an Athlon XP running a single core at 1.5 GHz with 2 GB of RAM on Win XP. The only problem I had was the integrated motherboard video - slapped in an old 8800GT and it had no problems running (on low settings of course, but this isn't my gaming machine - just a back up). I would hate to think you're running something older that this.

I suspect twin is right as well, in that you need to upgrade to DirectX 9.0c. But I am interested to see the specs on those computers and hear exactly what errors you experienced in more detail. I have not used the DVD to install a single copy, so my first suggestion would be Zaggeron's: try the D3 game client install from your battle.net account under game management.

I used the CD (Collector's Edition) to install mine. I actually had to go out and buy a CD drive that was serial ATA compatible. When I rebuilt my system, I never bought a CD drive because I didn't think I would ever use it.

Yea Iceman, I just made it to Inferno and all I have to say is get ready! LOL.

i know the desktop runs windows xp. i couldnt find how much ram it had, but had plenty of harddrive space. speed was sufficient if i remember right. i have a dell laptop running windows 7, but i think it lacked harddrive space? ill post when i get home. i think the desktop is my best chance. the mac is the oldest of the three, at about 4 years old.

The clock speed of the CPU is, in some sense irrelevant with all the different processors out there. My old laptop had a Pentium 4 with a faster clockspeed than my current i7, but in no way shape or form could it run Diablo 3.

I believe that Diablo's minimum specs for a Windows PC requires at least a Pentium D which came out late spring of 2005. If your PC is older than that, there is no hope. If it was cutting edge in 2006, you may have a chance if you have enough memory.

Go to Start and select "RUN" then type "DXDIAG" and you can see your memory there along with other PC info.

CPU is generally the least important major component in gaming. Video card, then RAM, then bus speeds (affecting CPU, HD, RAM), then clock speed is a fair order of importance for most games. That Athlon XP I tested was cutting edge in about 2002, if I remember correctly, and certainly does not meet the minimum specs given by Blizzard. But with a good enough video card and RAM, even my system technically below the minimum requirements is still capable of running the game.
