The only one that was similar to the tank sweet spots in BF3 was the first one BF1942. People complained about tanks ruling in BF1942 and the tankers complained about 1 shot 1 kill from the rear, so the versions after BF Vietnam, BF2 and so forth adjusted those two things. Personally, I think BF3 has been the most balanced so far of all the releases.

BF1942 you had to have skill to be an elite tanker because you had to hit while on the move because it was about where you hit not just about hitting the other tank. The elite tankers could hit from a distance while on the move and or took extra time to get around to the side or back of an enemy before shooting.
