Oh well, it's a cheap enough swap.

Yeah, not all 1155 boards will be compatible anyway. I'll just wait for the new crop to come out.

m4a1mustang 11-22-2011 06:27 PM

DLing the update right meow... taking forever

sboden 11-23-2011 12:54 PM

It sucked because I was all ready to play a quick game while waiting for the KU basketball to come on and then BBAAMM I had to wait for a patch download.....It started fast and then just got slower and slower. I ended up not playing.

m4a1mustang 11-23-2011 12:57 PM

I ended up AA raping.

It seems like they weakened the carbines.

sboden 11-23-2011 03:59 PM

Hopefully they did better than the past. In the past they would take one step forward and two steps back IMO.

m4a1mustang 11-23-2011 08:42 PM

I should have thought about this before I started looking at Crossfire setups. While my board does support CrossFire, it seems like it'd be a waste to try it since the second PCI-E slot is only 4x. Back in January when I put this system together I never really planned on serious Eyefinity gaming where I'd need 2 GPUs...

So, if I want to keep the board and upgrade to a better card it'd have to be the 6990. Otherwise it doesn't really make much sense to step from a single 5870 to a single 6970 on an eyefinity setup IMO.

Best option I guess would be to tough it out with 5760x1080 at medium settings (or drop down to 1920x1080 on High/Ultra) and wait for some new tech to roll out and/or pricing to come down and do a fresh build.

*sigh*

m4a1mustang 11-23-2011 09:55 PM

Well it appears the bandwidth hit isn't as bad as I thought it was after further research. Still something to think about...

*Edit* Scratch that. It appears my Mobo is not really going to cut it with Crossfire, so no point in going to two cards right now.

:icon17:

I'm a goober. Just bought an MSI P55-GD80 which will better support Crossfire. Just have to transfer everything over from my existing board and keep it as a spare or put it up on Ebay.

Thanks. It should, fingers crossed. The SATA ports are in a better location than my current Gigabyte board, too. If I were to go Crossfire on this board I'd lose about 4 Sata slots.

I am pretty much set on the MSI 2GB R6950 Twin Frozr III for my Crossfire cards. Cooling on it looks great, stock clocks are a good bit faster than a base 6950, and I can turn it up even more if needed and still maintain some good cooling.

So hopefully my BF3 and gaming experience overall will improve!

nuTinmuch 11-24-2011 10:23 PM

So I've been playing now since launch and I'm not too sure what to think.

It's fun, but it is missing something from BC2 -- and it seems to lack a certain polish. I find myself getting frustrated at certain bugs/glitches still in the game.

It also seems to reward camping way more than BC2 did.

Still fun, but I'm waiting to hop to CS:GO.

m4a1mustang 11-24-2011 11:14 PM

I don't know if it rewards camping as much as it does playing proper offense/defense. If you play with the mentality of going out and killing as many people you can you don't really get very far (as far as winning matches goes). BC2 seemed to play "faster" to me.

I primarily play rush, so I can't really speak to conquest, but...

On defense, I have the most success finding a spot and sitting in it the whole round unless I'm in a vehicle. I find that pushing out at all is basically asking for a loss. In BC2, you could be way more aggressive on defense and still hold the sites, but that doesn't seem to be the case in BF3.

On attackers, I find that rushing is often a frustrating game of spawning. Take Damavand Peak, for example. 99% of the time I get the Humvee, I'll always nab the first set of bases, but if I don't get to it, I end up having to sneak through rocks past a thousand recon.

Part of the problem is that destruction is weak.

And yeah, BC2 did feel faster. BF3 is more methodical, for better or worse.

I also hate the stinger. It isn't overpowered, it's just stupid. There's no skill curve to it, so someone who picks up the game two years from now will be as good as someone playing since launch. I miss the AT4. Badly -- both as someone who was good with it, and as someone who likes to fly.

I don't know. Something about the game in general doesn't feel right to me. BC2 felt like a much more fluid game.

m4a1mustang 11-25-2011 01:44 AM

BC3 is VERY team oriented. You can go all out... but you need to have 2-3 teammates on voice backing you up. A squad of 4 on voice can do some serious damage.

Not sure what's wrong with the Stinger? It's effective against nub pilots, but pilots who have earned IR flares and know how to beat the missiles are hard to take down.

Completely agree with everything you said. To get an experienced pilot with missles takes an initial shot, they shoot their flares and then you have to hit them before they get their flares back. It takes patience and you don't always have the time for it.

Squads can be very effective and Rambo will get you killed most the time. I personally like the style of play of BF3 better than BF2.

RoshDawg 11-25-2011 01:51 PM

Aa guns on ships need to be destructible.
Who else misses commander mode in bf2? There was so much teamwork and less chaos in that game. Requesting artillery from your commander, ordering squads to move and attack different points.
Or being a bad *** spec ops and infiltrating the enemy base to take out uav and so on.

m4a1mustang 11-25-2011 02:40 PM

Yeah they definitely should be destroyable. The US AA on Canals can be a major PITA since its close enough to destroy a lot of stuff on the ground.

sboden 11-25-2011 03:40 PM

I do miss commander...that was fun.

When I have a squad, I dominate, yeah. It sure doesn't help that the general skill level seems to be down from BC2.

The problem with the stinger is it takes zero skill whatsoever. You literally can use it with your foot. There is no trick to it... it just is. Compare that to the AT4, which was awesome.

They will never be able to balance it because of that fact. Against jets, it's useless (you don't even need flares, you can our maneuver the rockets). Against helicopters, it was a tad overpowered -- but now it is terrible.

Also you totally can rambo. Go engineer with an A-91. :p

That or play hardcore... because they didn't even try to balance it.

m4a1mustang 11-25-2011 09:07 PM

Even with balance issues I still think it's a lot of fun.

To really play it as it's meant to be played I think you'd need to coherent 16 or 32 person teams on both sides, with voice com. They'd have to be broken down into squads of four with at least a couple people coordinating the collective efforts of the group. That'd be most realistic probably.

I've been having a lot of fun with it. So much so that I've blown through about $700 in the last 24 hours just so I can make some system upgrades. :icon17:

SgtGoldy 11-26-2011 12:53 AM

GOT THE GAME! Lets play. Say, oh idk... Tomorrow??

RoshDawg 11-26-2011 01:58 AM

Away from the comp for thanksgiving. Having withdraws. Oh n sgtgodly I can't access my battle log until Monday so I'll accept your invite to the platoon then. We should all start using voice coms on ventrilo so if you haven't downloaded that program then get to it!

sboden 11-26-2011 12:24 PM

post the info here or on battle log and I'll install the program.

nuTinmuch 11-26-2011 01:20 PM

Also everyone should use Mumble, not Ventrilo. My team just recently switched, and it's so much better.

The voice quality/delay is similar to Skype, so it's awesome.

Corsair TX750 which is certified by AMD to CrossFire 2 6970s, and has been tested for a max draw of 1000+W

We'll see how it goes. If I need more power I will get more but it shouldn't be a problem.
