I created tanner Foust's ford fiesta and put it in to the club. Tell what you think.

shadoquad 10-24-2011 11:41 AM

I placed a bid on a unicorn car at auction (after all, there's an achievement for it), and the bid is "under review", tying up 4.5 million of my credits. It's been "under review" for over a week now, and it's really pi$$ing me off.

Zaggeron 10-24-2011 11:46 AM

That's one thing I didn't like about the last Forza, and they've made it worse in 4 by increasing the number of Unicorn cars. The beauty of the digital world is once it's programmed, you get as many copies as you like for free. It is arbitrary and artificial to make something digitally or virtually "rare". Frankly it makes about as much sense as the car wash in GT 5. :)

But...but...think of weight savings by getting rid of all that dirt and the reduced drag coefficient with that fresh coat of wax!!! It's like... +5whp!!!! :ughdance:

Yeah, I don't like in GT games where there's a car wash, oil changes, and periodic re-stiffening... I mean, whatever, car maintenance is a hassle irl, and it is in games, too.

But what bums me out is that they're tying up my bid money. If I lose 4.6 million creds because the seller was exploiting the game in some way, then that sucks, and in fact, they should have just given me back my dough and said "sorry bout your luck", rather than make me wait forever and possibly lose that money because of some jackwagon.

Yea that would suck if you lost your bid. I'm surprised you were even close at 4.6 million. The bids for Unicorns I saw were all at 999,999,999. :ugh2:

Whats a unicorn car?

A car with a single ivory horn sticking out from the front grill -- :bowrofl:

Actually, a "Unicorn car" is a car that cannot be bought in game or downloaded via DLC, but has to be won in the Auction House. Turn 10 will periodically place these cars up for auction and the only way to use them in the game is to win the auction by having the highest bid.

Unicorn cars are kind of pointless IMO. I still haven't gotten a chance to pick up this game yet. How does everyone like it so far?

I love it. I've already beaten World Tour, all of the Autovista challenges, and set a few Rival times that no one has challenged.

I'm going through the Event list now, slowly but surely.

Pretty cool.

Tons of stuff to do

-- world tour mode where the game selects events for you based on the car you are driving and the cars in your garage

-- event list where you can choose the event to run and tweak a bunch of settings

--- new event types like auto-x. Even a new "track day" mode where you try to get the fastest lap while passing slower cars

-- Rivals mode where it will select someone from your friend's list that has a time in the event (or a random leaderboard time if no friends have run the event) and you race their ghost to beat their time. If someone beats your time, you get a message in game telling you so.

Graphics are great.

Physics are pretty good -- especially with a good wheel and the driver's aids off.

Only real cons are there are not that many new cars or tracks over Forza 3.

Plus, there's no rally racing or endurance races, if those matter to you.

Spikuh 10-24-2011 03:02 PM

Feels different from FM3 so there is a small curve, but nothing dramatic. Looks absolutely gorgeous. I know some do not like the new AI, but I think it is a dramatic improvement. Especially with its ability to "learn". These days, I typically do not get into first place until I am about halfway through the race and only if I am driving well.

On another note, how is everyone making their credits?

The single-player is not very good for them and I have been doing mainly Rivals for my credits. I have been grinding out on the really short Top Gear track using the F level cars. I am about capped out though being only 3 seconds off the number 1 time and at the limit of either my driving skill with the controller or being unable to better tune my car.

I made most of my credits in World Tour mode, although looking at it now, I'd have done things much differently. I would have made my car choices based on the expense of the car and focused a lot less on brand loyalty, since affinity takes forever to level.

Really wish it had these. Not so much the endurance ones, but I want Rally races!!!

I wish there was F1 too.

Are you talking about the cars you get from leveling up your driver level?

Yeah. You get them up to lvl 50 and then it's just money after that.

But I picked with my heart rather than my head. I picked a GT40 over the Shelby race car and the Ferrari 330 P4.

I'm a moe ron.

Cmike2780 10-24-2011 03:09 PM

How does it compare to GT5? In terms of Graphics and physics to those that have played both? Do they have open wheeled cars in Forza yet? It would be cool to finally have one of these franchises have the Ariel Atom available.

It's not graphically as pretty as GT5, but imo it's much more fun. I don't think they have any open wheel cars, and again no rally or endurance. But it's much more conducive to casual gaming. GT5 was more of a headache imo. Yes, it's cool, but B spec using X car class and 20 laps... not my idea of fun.

Zaggeron 10-24-2011 03:13 PM

The lack of Rally events doesn't really bug me -- sometimes if a game tries to do too much it suffers. I'll just pop in Dirt3 if I want some rally or dirt track racing.

I've been doing mostly world tour and a bunch of event list stuff -- with some Rivals mode. I'm around level 55 or so and have around 4 million in the bank. But then again, I haven't been picking up expensive cars.

shadoquad 10-24-2011 03:14 PM

I haven't spent much dough. I haven't bought any cars except my Z34.

BUT I put one bid on a damn unicorn car and will possibly lose 4.6 million creds.

Zaggeron 10-24-2011 03:14 PM

I have both GT5 and Forza 4. I played GT5 for around a year pretty regularly, but there is no going back now. What absolutely kills it for me now that Forza 4 is out are the absolutely uninspiring engine sounds from GT5. Forza 4 sounds awesome.

Cmike2780 10-24-2011 03:14 PM

Not a fan of B-Spec either, I played it once and concluded it was a useless feature. It was great back when it was the easiest way to gain credits, but now the online stuff gets you there much faster.

Except that they "nerfed" the seasonals back to normal payouts instead of the 4-5x payouts we've been getting. A Seasonal that before would have netted you close to 500K now will only pay like 125-150K.

Spikuh 10-24-2011 03:40 PM

I have never played GT5, but a good friend of mine who has been a huge fan of that franchise since its inception absolutely hated it and says Forza 4 trumps it in just about everyway possible.

So take it for what you will.

Ya, I'm following that list on like page 5 or 6 of this thread for picking cars when I level up.

If my heart wants to complain to much, I tell it that by taking the 9 mil credit car, I can sell it and buy multiple cars my heart wants. :happydance:

Zaggeron 10-24-2011 03:52 PM

^^^ but you can't really sell gift cars -- you get like 100 credits for them or something.

I basically used the list to pick the more expensive car when I knew I would eventually get some or all of the other choices. But, if there was just one car I wanted, I just picked that one even though some of the choices were higher priced.

Ok, go to rivals mode, Nurburgring, stock Radical SR8.

I beat bobo's time with a clean lap, albeit with some driver assists. Go take it out!

outside of iRacing, I never really felt that other mainstream SIMs really captured weight balance and tire modeling correctly... this one DOES ! it's a must have... been driving with xbox controller until my new wheel shows up

Zaggeron 10-24-2011 05:03 PM

A good wheel and pedal setup really makes the game come alive. Here's mine:

I don't carry pictures of video game controllers with me to work, so I searched the internet for a facsimile picture that would represent what I actually hold in my hands at night... And then thought better of it and posted a pic of a VG controller.
