So after I left I went to work departure radar. I get a regional jet going to san fran that immediately declares an emergency right after i say radar contact. his gear was stuck and couldn't get it to come fully up or down, so he decided to go into holding and burn off a bunch of fuel so that they could return.

this is what it looks like when it's done.

LoL Looks like when I turn on track trace on a Tanker in an orbit... Good to hear though, did they get the gear back down, or was it that it wouldnt come up?

both, the nose gear was in limbo and you cannot climb to 33k feet and 450mph with the gear down, nor can you make a safe landing. that's why they went into holding, they call their technicians and trouble shoot while burning off the fuel as they were too heavy to land.

What got the gear back down, or did they belly land?

they got the gear down. all the fire trucks and ambulances were there just in case. that's normal procedure, better to have them there and not need them than the other way around.

Right, i understand emergency procedures, just wondering what the fix was... if the first officer went down to the gear bay and gave it a swift kick or somethin lol.

no idea, they don't tell us, and we really don't care, as long as they make it in safely we've done our jobs. :tiphat:
