So I'm looking at this deed (I do oil & gas title work) filed in 1859. It's a succession of this guy & it's naming his assets, some of which were slaves. One woman is described as, "Roxanna, a griff woman aged fifteen year."
I'd never heard the word "griff" used in reference to a person before. Apparently it's some archaic way to say "mixed." Who knew? I guess the master messed with Roxanna's mommy. |
jesus I had way too much last night
