Dammit where is Shumby? I want to ask him a question about the tile in his shower. Yeah I know its random but I'm remodeling a bathroom right now and my fiancee and I are debating tile size.

Hard to go too big in the shower, because it's vertical something like a 16"+ tile will slip instead of adhering to the wall. So unless you want to sit there and hold them while they attach ...

Wow 16"+?! We were thinking 12"x12" but I've never done tile that big before. Only 4"x4" and 6"x6". You have some experience with tile Frost?

Well I know when you go larger you are using floor tile. They say floor tile is fine for walls but wall tiles cannot be used for floors.

well, it's common sense to use large tiles on the floors and not on the walls.

1st it covers more space per tile and is easier to give a level floor.....lol

Well, I think it's the material you're concerned about, not whether it's labeled as a floor or wall tile per se. What type of tile? Some adhesive wont stick to porcelain tiles.

I think we are migrating away from having to use small tiles for the wall. It's a slow transition, but looking at really expensive shower setups, it seems to be getting common to use 12+ tile.

Nothing wrong with traditional, it's definitely easier to do!

No actually it has to do with structural integrity. Wall tiles cannot support the weight of people walking on them.

These are a faux slate. I don't see any real problem regarding adhering to the walls, I'm just curious if their are integrity problems over time with a larger tile.
