this is probably going to sound like the dumbest question ever but oh well here it goes. Are birds soft when you touch them or like coarse? I've never touched a bird before and I can't tell from pics, I feel it could go either way.

hmmm both i guess. they aren't real big on letting you pet them per se. but he does let you scratch his head if he's mellow. you have to give them a shower once a week or so to keep their dander down, or they get dusty.

HAHAHA that would be so clutch. good call

smurfblu13 07-31-2009 02:07 AM

how do you go about showering a bird, just toss it in and close the door? lol I'm kidding. But how do you really shower it?

his name is Maile. and he was around long before Miley Cyrus FWIW. I named him that because i lived in hawaii. they eat just about anything a human can. but they can get fat quickly since they don't get that much exercise. they can live 80 years though.

smurfblu13 07-31-2009 02:09 AM

that's awesome so he's basically a friend for life. Aren't they really expensive though?

this time of year i spray him with the hose outside. in the cold months i use something like this. he spends a great deal of time outside with us on a big stand. he totally does his own thing most of the day.

pretty much, when we get old we will need to figure out what to do with him. many don't make it that long because they get so fat, but even at age 50 we'll be in our 80s....

smurfblu13 07-31-2009 02:12 AM

are his wings clipped or does he not fly away, can you train a bird not too? lol

his wings are clipped. just enough to keep him from flying far away, but enough that he can fly forward and not injure himself if he falls from his stand or a tree branch. and they are usually $800 on up. about the same price as a pure bred dog.

smurfblu13 07-31-2009 02:15 AM

that's not too bad I thought they were a lot more. Or is it the McCaw's or whatnot that are like in the thousands easy, that or I'm just remembering completely wrong which is known to happen quite often lol. That's cool so he'll just go up in a tree and chill then come back when it's time to go inside, never heard of a bird doing that.

you can get a rescue bird for a lot less. macaws are huge, there is no way i'd have one of those. maile has no interest in being free, he even yells at the dragon flies and butterflies that buzz by him. he says "hey!" "don't do that!"

it's pretty funny really, since his parents were from the amazon jungle and now he prefers indoor showers and sipping his latte.

smurfblu13 07-31-2009 02:23 AM

it just keeps getting better, he drinks lattes? :rofl2::rofl2:

I'm actually a big fan of AZ and NM. I have no allergies there, and the humidity isn't like how it is here. Sometimes AZ and NM gets high humidity, but its not the same. We are classified a rain forest here, and what ever it is that classiffies us that way seems to make anything above 98 degrees, unbearable.

Reminds me of deep south Louisiana. I love that state, but damn you are just wet all of the time in the summer.

I liked AZ when I was there. Agreed no allergies.

they are a lot of work. you have give them a good diet, clean the cage at least 4 times a week and spend quite a bit of time with them. some varities get very upset and pluck all of their feathers out.

smurfblu13 07-31-2009 02:39 AM

well no one wants a nekkid bird. Yea this will be a down the road pet. My main pet I'm getting as soon as I have a house is a wallaby

28 man, but I think I've lived three lives by now.

Just been tired lately. Still a student because I returned to school, and currently can't get a job, besides my rentals, and remodeling to save my life.

Like Tin said, they are a ton of work. If your bird gets sick, imagine the bet bill for a dog X3 easily.

You also have to consider them to be a lifetime commitment.

I use to raise rescue birds. Local vets, and the humane society use to bring me a lot of local riff raff to nurse to an adult age, or back to health.

smurfblu13 07-31-2009 02:44 AM

yea they do sound like a lot and I can imagine vet bills on an exotic animal. Would only seriously consider if I could provide for them and care for it properly. I love animals, so I'm very realistic and responsible when it comes too them.

well they may be good for you once you get settled. a rescue bird can be rewarding, just like a dog from a shelter can be.

Either Psychology (yeah I know) or return to law classes, and transfer to Willamette.

Idk we'll see.

Jobs in the mean time: T-mobile (I have plenty of experience in call center work), Fred Meyer, I was a PIC there, and a few others.

I ultimately am trying to avoid retail, but at this point anything would be fine.

I'm applying to Wachovia Securities and Willshire (Merrill Lynch), but the pickings are so slim out there, and there are so many over qualified applicants, we'll see.

My fiancee has a degree in advance interior design, a minor in business, and architecture experience, and she currently is working for Cost Plus World Market at 8.40/hr.

Man it really is tough out there. My wife is a speech therapist and has her choice of jobs. My job is stable and my second job is weather and I only work that 16-22 hours a month. We are very, very fortunate.

If you're ever interested in the ATC thing let me know, you would be well qualified.

Pushing_Tin 07-31-2009 03:11 AM
