But don't get me on speed limits. They are failing at what they've been intended to do for quite a while since the metric used to set them is still based on car performance in the 80's.

You dont have any downloaded music or software or tv episode or movie. you have never smoked pot, or other substances. :P yeah, unfortunately im still afraid if they do change the limits, cus as cars get better/safer drivers are seemingly getting dumber (Atlanta is baaaaad. when it rains, and they go slower, they feel cus they are going slower they can ride even closer to the bumper of the car in front). Because once you start putting limits based on the performance of cars, you really should do it based on the driver... but then how do you judge/monitor.. more electronics? more camera's? sensors? limiters? eventually.. we wont even drive. ugh. Dont like this path... |

Haha, I actually don't download stuff, and I'm pretty straight edge. Perhaps I'm the wrong person to look at though. A super loud exhaust is just impolite, and shows you don't have any concern for people around you. Speed limits were supposed to be set to the 80th percentile of free-flowing traffic. They are now set at around the 35th percentile... epic fail |

I was watching the hockey games too, love the playoffs. Since i am back at work, i am not going to get into this again. You just don't get it apparently. It's funny given the title of this post was specific to loud motorcycles, you can lump the cars in i guess.
Let's not get started with the lame charity drives. With the gas they burn, they can easily donate a few hundred bucks to the charity. |

I don't think I have EVER heard a street car that is close to reaching the sound levels some of these bikes produce. I think some of you guys who support or are motorcyclists are taking that as a blanket statement but it is not as many riders are reasonable both in their etiquette and their noise levels. There are obnoxiously loud cars as there are obnoxiously loud bikes but the obnoxiously loud bikes are always a step above their car counter part in my experience.
Again, I can't wait until the motorcycle industry gets to enjoy emissions standards like cars do as this will level the playing field in the eyes of enthusiasts on both sides in my opinion.

I hate loud *** harley's wakes me up all the time. It also wakes up my nephews when they visit the house. To my experience I have never heard a street car even the one's with a straight pipe louder than your usual harley's. |

Well, my neighbor with the loud a$$ harley woke me up this morning at 6:30am. I could hear him in his driveway across the street letting the damn thing idle for like 5 minutes and then off he goes making sure to give it some extra revs to boot, waking up the everyone in a 1/4 mile radius.

I agree that many bikes are too loud but I also think bikes should be louder than the cars around them. It's actually a safety issue. If your loud enough to be noticed its less likely you will be run over. I ride an R6 and I put a leo vince exhaust on it. It's quite loud when you wind it up but at normal cruising speed its just loud enough for people in their cars to hear. Since putting the exhaust on I've had fewer instances where I had to perform emergency maneuvers to avoid being run over.
