Default Help with an accident

Long story short, my girlfriend's roommate who's an international student borrowed somebody's car and wrecked the rear bumper on a stationary object. I haven't actually seen the car myself but I guess the bumper does need to replaced.

Thing is, the owner of the car only has liability insurance so he supposedly asked so got quotes from numerous bodyshops and $1080 was the cheapest he got quoted for a freaking 07 Hyundai Azera! My girlfriend's roommate has been under constant stress lately to pay for the damages, not to mention she can't even ask her parents for money since the exchange rate is so f*cked up right now.

Now, it's quite obvious that I can get a much better quote if I were the owner but if seems like he's unwilling to get his bumper replaced anywhere else other than the Hyundai dealership. Is there anything she can do? Any help would be appreciated.

Haven't seen the car yet myself either but I heard it's possible to just mend the bumper if it's not that serious?

Also, I guess the owner is justifying the cost by saying that his Azera has a Powder White Pearl paint on it.

Tell her not to pay unless he accepts a more reasonable quote. He's being unreasonable*.

...Maybe he shouldn't have lent it to her in the first place.

That's it for $1,100? BS. What is specifically listed on the bid line items, and their associated cost?

Why not tell her to go to the dealership and buy one?
I'm pretty sure a bumper of that kind is not one thou...
And why is he giving her such a hard time?!
As long as it looks the same it shouldnt matter.
Hyundai is so good.

1000 bucks for that? SERIOUSLY!? It almost looks like you could just patch it up with some vinyl. No dents or anything, just a small crack... This guy is obviously trying to take advantage of her situation, being a foreigner and having limited options. I say, if all else fails, see how much it would cost to buy a new bumper and have it installed, because by cousin's Acura CL bumper was only 200 bucks for the actual part.

maybe its the only shop that the owner trusts. either way, if it were MY car, i would wanna take it MY mechanic. anyone should assume the responsibility when they borrow anything from someone.

Yeah, we're all "enthusiasts" though. We drive cars that are worth more than just money to us. That type of car isn't really one that I would assume the owner is emotionally attached to. I'm not saying that it doesn't need to be a perfect job, but he needs to work with her on it.

If I let someone borrow my car, I am trusting them. I would not make them pay unless they did something outright stupid. Hence why I have only ever let 2 people drive my car (one of which has 2 cars that are 700hp+...).
