You need a Metro Pass. You swipe the card when getting on the bus. $10 for a card with each trip about $1.50. And it's useful to look at a bus map to see which numbers & line go where you want to go. Frequency varies by line and by time of day, but they are listed on the poles at bus stops (a little funky to figure out the first time).

Subways are also a good choice, and less subject to traffic congestion. Again, get a bus/subway map if you can. Depending on where you enter the system, one can be better than the other. If you come in by train, the subways are often a better bet.

Can I use the card and pay for other people with me ?? Where do I get the card and how do I recharge ?? It's kinda confusing since its my first time ever !! thanks for your answer

If you get the pay per ride Metrocard then you can pay for other people, too. If you get an unlimited Metrocard (1-day, 1-week, 30-day), then there's a set time interval between each use/swipe. You can purchase a Metrocard from the manned-booth or machines at a subway station; some stores also sell Metrocards. You can put additional funds onto the Metrocard at any subway station.
