Here's a 103 page thread full of people with the proximity issue. Apparently returning it isn't a fix, as there are people have switched our 5 phones and can't get rid of this problem.
It's much more annoying than an antennae issue. Apple - Support - Discussions - Issue with Proximity Sensor during calls ...
