Nice CBR!!! We are seeing a bunch of them show up in the WERA series. Honda has a $35,000 contigency if you podium first place in the superbike class!!! I hear they handle amazing and if you buy one of the new left over 08's you can get them for $7k

great advice here. The only thing I can think to add is having either dedicated riding boots (racing boots) or steel-toed work shoes. I go with the latter. Makes shifting and braking with your toes easier, splits air better around your shoe to keep your feet warmer on cold rides and (most importantly) protects your toes on a tight turn. When I first started riding I leaned into a turn with my foot too even on the peg and the toe of my shoe scraped the ground and since it could flex it caught the rough pavement and almost bent my ankle under me!
Please please please don't be like those idiots I see riding around in shorts and t-shirts. Always gear up properly. If it's too hot, take the car and crank the AC. I generally don't ride if it's hotter than 90F out, since I prefer black riding gear - even with a mesh jacket it's rough. Like it's been said, it's not if you're going to fall, but when. And most people don't take that generally enough and only apply it to their driving habits and say "oh well I'm not going to go fast or race or anything like that" but they don't realize it'll prob be because some idiot in a car does not see them and WHAM! Also like it's been said - always assume that no other vehicles on the road see you. Especially dangerous scenarios are those like where a person is making a turn into the opposite lane, doesn't see you behind a car and thinks it's all clear once the car passes, pulls out and ends up right in front of you. Happened to me once luckily I saw it coming and swerved and there was no oncoming traffic. So BE AWARE Last edited by Gaiiden; 05-27-2010 at 09:13 PM. |

Dont let your ego control the bike. People tried to tell me i was making a bad choice by getting a 08 ZX6R as my first bike with only the safety course and thats it. Been over a year now and my bike has never been dropped by me...by that i mean my gf smashed our Z into the bike by accident but thats another story. As long as you keep your ego under control and dont act retarded, you will be fine and of course watch out for other drivers.

Everything said above is absolutely correct. Buy the best riding gear you can afford. I've ridden with Icon leather jackets and Aria or Shoei helmets. Two years ago I slid out in a corner (sand) and then high sided my ZX-12R at near 100mph. I was wearing all my gear; helmet, boots, jacket, gloves. I broke my wrist, but otherwise walked away. I still wear the same jacket, even on my Harley.
Make sure to buy a jacket that has cooling vents in it. If your too hot in the summer, then you won't wear it. Plan on wearing something other than leather in the winter. Leather makes you feel much colder in the winter. Look at some of the touring jackets. They have removable liners to keep you warm while blocking the cold winter air. Good Luck! |

MSF was a freakin blast, my MSF was consisted of 1/2 day worth of class and 1 1/2 days worth of riding. Have fun but don't take the bikes too lightly, one of the guy in my class was hauled off in an ambulance.

Take care to recognize that the first 6 months to a year that bike is going to be way more than you can honestly handle. I'd recommend less motor. Be safe, a motorcycle will kill you quickly whereas a car will do much to protect you when things get out of hand.
Good job on the MSF course - that's a good impartial way to learn. I'd not buy black - that'll be way too hot, despite how good it looks. I buy silver, grey and white gear. Here are some photos from my motorcycle trip to Red National Park from San Francisco. Kevins bike.jpg Bike Rear.jpg Switchback w- Bike.jpg Last edited by yellowZ; 06-08-2010 at 03:29 PM. |
