It's not that I don't believe there aren't high quality tequilas, but when I'm purchasing high end liquor and I'm staring at all the varieties, tequila just loses out. Although, I'd probably be more likely to try a high end tequila than a high end rum. o_O
I think it's like any other "good" libation, "if" you have no history or developed taste for it, then you just don't know. The average beer drinker or non-drinker would not know, nor appreciate the difference between a cheap bourbon versus a single barrel aged version............... same holds true for Tequila as well. If you developed a taste for it and started experimenting, you'd appreciate a finer variety more.

Come visit, and I'll turn you on to some good tequila

Yeah, the best tequila I've probably had is ~$50 bottle of patron reposado. Not exactly high class.

That's a good tequila, but not equal to a really nice high end anejo, IMO.

Who makes a good brand? I can't imagine the patron stuff is all that good.

Curious as well. Patron is the best I've had but it seems to be what I like to consider "college caliber" alcohol.

I like Don Julio and Don Eduardo, but there are many good ones in the $50 to $100 dollar range, and some nice ones under $50, $35 to $50 range. Try this for a little help:

Tequila Brands, Ratings and Reviews at Tequila.net

click on products, then reviews, then pick your poison

They look nice, hopefully they come in all black.

The don julio practically looks like tar when compared to the patron anejo
