After nearly a year of putting up with mental and verbal abuse from my direct narcissist boss and shielding my team from it, I finally walked out of my job Monday night. Life is too effing short.

During my annual review, I apparently "do not work hard enough" and got written up for it, despite never taking any lunch breaks, working until 1.30 AM daily, and making sure all assignments to me were completed on time and in accordance with her standards, while also ensuring my team was taken care of. She also made a passing comment that she didn't think I deserved a penny from the bonus that was coming my way (which I thought if I sucked so much at my job, why is your boss awarding me with one?).

Bonus check cleared last Friday and was looking to make moves at that point. Monday came around and out of nowhere, my boss came down to my floor and forcefully slid my door open and started screaming about something to which I really wasn't paying attention to. My office had clear glass walls and located in the middle of surrounding cubicles so everyone was able to see/hear what was going on. I pretty much just started at her, as was everyone else, but didn't respond and kept eye contact until she walked away.

Finished out the day and stayed at the office until everyone left. Gathered all my belongings and typed up a long narrative email of exercising my option as an at-will employee to terminate my employment effective immediately, while also putting a formal complaint against my boss and included all the evidence that I had gathered, including emails, screenshots of chat conversations, etc. I copied the entire HR team, which was about 40 people, and also copied the CEO and anyone else in the C-Suite, but didn't copy my boss.

I have about a year's worth of savings, but don't want to dip into that too much, but it has been nice to enjoy the time off to mentally recalibrate. I have never taken a vacation, other than the 1 day to get my Z's CSC/CMC replaced, but turned out to be my benefit, as HR informed me that any unused sick/vacay time would be paid out on my final check.

Folks, life is too short. If you don't like what you are doing, move on.

What is that?

Nope, I can't do it. And I refuse to learn, and refuse to go live/work/play in an area that requires it. And I don't trust the other drivers that they know how to parallel park also.

There is nothing worse than going to a job you hate. Work sucks as it is, having a shitty superior makes it worse. Pretty much why I was self employed most of my life.

I've thrown a ball peen hammer at one foreman. The next day, I found myself in another dept. The foreman was scared of me. I've quit 2 jobs because of azzhole bosses. Done the malicious compliance thing too. At the power plant. Management was happy the day I retired. I was a thorn in their side for 16 yrs. Never lied to them, but never sugar coated the truth either. Which they hated. When upper management would drop in for a visit. They never knew what would I say. I had the ear to one VP. He liked me. He would e-mail me, asking how things were going at the plant. And I would tell him. Plant management could never figure how he knew what was going on. :rofl2:

You did the right thing. Jobs are out there, you will get by sooner or later. Your mind will be thankful to you. Go and sleep for several days without an alarm clock, go for a long drive in the mountains and go out. You will recalibrate quickly and figure out your next steps soon.

Thanks all!

I've been through some psycho/bipolar doozies, but this most recent was takes the cake. For the past few months, even the wifey was demanding that I quit.

Been going to the gym super late at night so I can be alone and then waking up really late and into the afternoon, only to walk the dog and watch TV for pretty much the entire day. Been contemplating a trip to FL for saltwater fishing.

I told my team to still call me if they have any pressing emergencies, as the crap is still fresh on my mind and have been spending about 2 hours each day as "office hours" just so I can get some mental stimulation and gossip.

Hump day is over.

vtec to vvel 02-26-2025 11:13 PM

Watched the entire X-Men movie series over the past 2 days (first time seeing them except for Wolverine Origins), and I am very confused.

How is it that Raven/Mystique dies in Dark Phoenix, which takes place in the 70's, but then she is alive in X1, X2, and X3 (which takes place later in terms of time)?

How is it that none of the younger versions of Beast, Cyclops, Jean, Nightcrawler, etc. did not know Wolverine as kids?

How Charles Xavier met some of the younger version of the main-character mutants is different in Wolverine Origins than the X series.

Currently in the process of watching Deadpool and Wolverine. Didn't they fight each other in Wolverine Origins? And now they're teaming up? Like I said, very confused.

Off to the gym.

Inflaymes 02-26-2025 11:40 PM

The reason Mystique appears alive in "X1", "X2", and "X3" despite seemingly dying in "Dark Phoenix" is because the X-Men movie timeline was significantly altered by "X-Men: Days of Future Past", which introduced time travel, meaning the events of "Dark Phoenix" (set in the 70s) occur in a different timeline than the original trilogy where Mystique is alive and well.

Scott was in high school when he realized his powers. On the other characters it could be the alternate time line idea as well as not focusing on the earlier life events and instead developing characters at the age they are now.

Charles Xavier encounters a younger Wolverine while he is already established as a powerful telepath and leader, essentially recruiting him into a covert team, while in the "X-Men" series, their meeting happens much earlier in Xavier's journey as he is actively searching for mutants and discovering their powers, often finding them in more vulnerable or unaware situations, leading to a more gradual recruitment process.

Wolverine, the X-Men are initially shown fighting Wolverine because he is being controlled by the Weapon X program, which is trying to use his powers for destructive purposes, making him a threat to the team at that point; however, in later X-Men films, Wolverine becomes an ally and friend to the X-Men because he is eventually freed from Weapon X's control and chooses to use his abilities for good, aligning himself with the team's mission to protect mutants.

Got it. I had a hard time keeping track with some of the different events (I'm sure the sleep deprivation also played a factor). Now that I think about it, I believe Jean Gray died twice?

Seems like the writers/directors were like "Oops, just kidding. We want to go with another story line."

I'm wondering how Xavier (in his earlier days) couldn't reach out to Wolverine with Cerebro and having access to each mutant.

I was also wondering why Hugh Jackman only made cameo appearance in certain movies.

On a side note, Deadpool/Wolverine, a swing and a miss. I stopped watching about 30% into it and it seemed like the entire movie was created just to dog on Fox?
