The only thing that worries me is Google is building its own OS currently.
If they go tablet will they use Android or their Chrome OS? It might be up to the hardware companies in the end, but I am sure Google will have a lot of input.

Android was made by Google...

It is, but Google has two systems going now: Android & Chrome OS.
Android is their mobile phone system which has also been proven to work very well as a tablet setup.
Chrome OS is designed from the ground up as a netbook/web system. It has not been developed enough to know if it will work well as a tablet solution, but with a product like the JooJoo which is 100% web based it proves that Chrome OS might be a viable tablet system.

I have a feeling they'll work together very well...just about everything google makes interfaces with everything else they have lol.

I have an android phone (droid on verizon) and iPhone on AT&T. My droid is through work, my iPhone is my personal phone. My droid stays in my desk at work. Andoid OS sucks in my opinion. It's slow as hell compared to the iPhone. The media player is pathetic, and web browsing is a chore. Apps are hit or miss with terrible buggy quality of most apps...and the touch screen sucks (though that's a phone issue and not an OS issue) The same app on the iPhone is about 100 times better in quality (Google maps for example). Windows Mobile 7 is learning, by developing a "closed loop" app store pretty much copying apple, so they won't have the app cluster **** that is android. However, if specs mean more than function to people, the new HTC evo 4g on sprint seems pretty cool. Too bad it runs android.

The only thing andoid has for it over iPhone OS is multitasking, but I'm a jail breaker so it doesn't affect me much. The iPod functionality of the iPhone OS trumps anything android though.

There is a lot of opinion(s) in your post but also a lot of miss information.
Google maps is actually a lot worse on the iPhone, first Google Maps is a few revisions ahead on the Droid, Apple has stopped updates on Google Maps between a debate with Google & Apple. The app store on Android is controlled, you do have the ability to installed unknown apps but those are not in the app store.

Apps are 100 times better on the iPhone OS v. Android, would love to hear some actual apps or examples of this. Everything my co-worker(s) and my personal usage of the iPhone shows both apps run equally on the Droid and iPhone.

Android browser, well there is Opera if you are unhappy, but the only thing the Droid browser lacks is pinch to zoom...wait it got that in 2.1 update.

I'm not talking about the turn by turn functionality, that's pretty cool. I'm just talking about navigating within the app itself. And of course everything I said is opinion, just like everything else in this thread most people have posted is opinion. That's why this is in the lounge on a 370z message board hehe. I'm just saying I have both and the iPhone feels much more fluid to me by a long shot. Android feels clunky. We are not going to convince each other that one is better than the other, it's just fun to discuss with fellow tech-geeks.

What does jailbreaking have to do with multitasking at all?

The reason Android feels slower more than likely is BECAUSE of its ability to multitask, and I'll take that any day over a more "fluidic" feel.

zZSportZz 04-04-2010 09:26 PM

You can multitask to your hearts content on a jailbroken iPhone, and it's still more fluid. Only reason apple doesn't allow it is because of battery drain. The 3GS has the horsepower to do it. Might be iffy on the previous generations though. I've never tried it on anything but the 3GS. Don't get me wrong, android is a good OS but lacks in media capabilities IMHO (browsing, movies, music) which is what i use my phone for 90% of the time (I travel a lot).

MightyBobo 04-04-2010 10:04 PM

I guess media capabilities is quite literally one of the last things I care about in a smart phone lol. Its nice, but I dont use it a ton.

I was the same until I started traveling a lot., now I use it in airports and even preload movies to watch on the plane - plus music and games while bored. However, the iPhone sucks at email productivity IMHO. Its a media phone. Pre-droid my company provided me a blackberry....To this day I still think my old world edition blackberry was my best work phone in terms of emailing and doing work related stuff. It was super fast and useable with one hand. BES was and still is the ****. So it all depends what you use it for. Blackberry is best emailer, iPhone is best media/ game phone. Andoid phones are kinda in the middle. The do a bunch of stuff well but don't really excel at one thing. The are the definate king of gps though. Also a good choice if you've given your soul over to the google universe (gmail, google docs, etc.)

Disclaimer: above is my opinion

That "app cluster ****" you are talking about is the reason those of us with Android phones love them. We don't have Steve Jobs looking over our shoulder telling us what we want. This means I can get apps that allow me to torrent, have mixed content, allow me to have "alternate" ways to my music as well as being able to -really- VoIP with no strings attached a-la AT&T.

Also, I've used both and saying either is much faster or slower is silly. They are about the same speed.

But back on topic, the iPad sucks~
