The Apple tablet
 

Should be announced today in a bit, and I will update this post when I get more info. Currently from the leaks it might be more than just a large iPod touch and actually a full new device.
The question I have though is will it breath new life into the tablet world which has been lack-luster the past 5 years. For those who want to follow a live feed of the announcement here you go:

I have grown up with tech around me, so I keep track of everything, and usually end up owning a lot of it.:ugh2:

The bezel is too big.

That puts me off. Too much dead space. But, let's see what it can do...

Well but you will want more of your hand on it, versus an iPhone so a larger bezel is probably needed as not cover of the screen.

holy crap that iPad is like 4 times the size of Steve Jobs!!!! how are people supposed to carry it?!!?

For the 2G iPad in a year or so, it'll be:

Only thing I hate about these "announcements" from Apple is they go over some stupid sh*t, and the meat of what people care about is somewhat glazed on. Hardware, connections (wifi/3G), cost, etc.

But wait, there's more! The next best thing to Apple's U2 Special Edition iPod will be the Mr. T Special Edition iPad: "iPity The Fool!"

Look at that, 20-30 minutes on random sh*t on the device, and 2-4 minutes on the hardware and other specs...WTF?

I'm surprised tablets are making a comeback.

The iPad looks interesting... just can't get over that big bezel. It's nice and thin, though. I didn't catch what display technology is used. OLED would make it so thin and light.

Not excited, really. I thought the screen would somehow be active/passive so it wouldn't need a glaring backlight for reading.

Maybe it will hook up to Logic or FCP like a nice remote control surface. That would be cool.

9.7" IPS display, problem is Apple wants this device to probably price nicely so OLED would have shot it up a few hundred bucks and the average consumer will not notice the better tech. Probably two years from now we will see an OLED screen.

I think the term tablet will change soon, it will mean multiple things, not just laptops with no keyboard.
