Morning all! Hitting a high of 66 today, great weather to be outdoors. I'm finally enjoying running again ;)

I've started replacing the vibrant orange countertops, circa 1950, in our downstairs kitchen. So far so good.

Good morning gentlemen!:tiphat:Pouring down rain here at the moment(like we need it).:shakes head:Anyway have great day!

old guy 03-23-2021 07:22 AM

Good morning everyone :tiphat:
66* for a high here today! Pulled off the cover off the Z yesterday and it’s like getting a new car again! Took a look at those converter bolts and are they ever corroded, which is expected ( based on everyone else’s experience ) but I was hoping that it wouldn’t be THAT bad since the car has never seen a winter and only been caught in the rain maybe 20 times. Oh well, what can a poor boy do, except prepare for battle :icon14:

Not going to be putting insurance on it until next month as the rainy season starts tomorrow with the next 10 of 11 days rain is in the forecast :shakes head:

Anyway, somke’m if ya got’m

:hello:

I'z up.

A bit sore from yesterday at work. Can tell that most people got their stimulus and income checks. Last week, we double our sales plan. This week's overlook is that we will more than double the sales plan.

The price of lumber has jumped 117% from last year at this time. With no decrease in sight. We are having trouble getting some sizes.

Bright and sunny out. High of 70F.

JLarson 03-23-2021 09:01 AM

Looks like I'm getting another direct employee in the near future... This may be a bit of a challenge. I've never had direct oversight of the heat treat department before.

Hey Russ, somewhat related (but asking for a different reason) what kind of experience do you have with building furnaces? Wiring control panels? Testing thermocouples, that kind of thing?

2x4 at Menards last year. $2.50
2x4 at Menards this month $6.69
WTF is going on with wood?

There are stack and stacks of it.

ZeeingAround 03-23-2021 10:44 AM

Meanwhile. Dropped the Pontiac 400 to a reputable builder. It has the 6X6 heads that will be done too. RAM AIR III build with working hood scoops. Dipping the block first ! Then 3 months later I should have a complete engine. Scored a boxful of useful parts for the GTO of a guy on craigslist for $40!
Getting a new roof today. Set the bank balance back 5 figures. Ouch.

Zero. I used to work with a guy at the plant that did that kind of work. Ray is retired now. Have no idea where he is at now.

It's all these new houses being built. The Denver area is booming.

I got rid of a bunch of Pontiac parts about 10 years ago. Had some SD parts. Ram Air 4 and 5 heads. A 4 bolt main 400 block. Found out the hard way that the Pontiac big blocks don't like to spin pass 6 grand for any length of time. :shakes head:

IIRC, none of the old GM big blocks liked 6k for any length of time. That's why the SBC reigned supreme for so long. You can spin that to 9K all day long...:yum:

Too bad. We're looking for a consultant, and I figured "given Russ has done pretty much every job known to man, let's ask him!"

They are not as bad as you hear on the interwebZ. Even the G with the awd bs and a couple winters came right off with a bit of blaster and the right tools

I've done heat treating. Never built the ovens. Check with Cooper Heat, or Mannings. Think they might be the same company now.

I do consulting work. I charge 12 hr per day min. Even if I only work 2 hr. 5 days a week. $375 per hr plus per diem rate rate of $300 per day. That's the going rate now a days. I know guys who charge more.
