Default 2013 Hyundai Sonata

So I bought my 16 year old daughter a 2013 Hyundai Sonata with 150,000 miles back in January. Well she just got her license a couple weeks ago and her first job. In 6 months we put just over 2k miles on it while she had her learners.

This past weekend the car cut off on her twice. The last time I went to take it to Advanced Auto to have the computer read for codes and it cut off on me and would not start again. Had to have it towed to local Hyundai dealership.

Spoke to the dealership today and the engine is completely shot. Needs to be replaced. Luckily I did get the extended warranty when purchased from the dealership. However I got a call later today From the dealership stating that even though we were 52k miles over the warranty, Hyundai was going to replace the engine for free as they have had issues with this engine model. FYI it did have the engine inspection/replace recall done back in 2017.

Anyway, although it sucks the engine even failed, I’ll give props to Hyundai for making it right and replacing the engine anyway.

Anyone else have a Hyundai with the 2.4l 4 cyl and have you had issues?

Yes it is! And I don't think I made it clear, but I bought the car from a non-Hyundai dealership on their used car lot. The extended warranty was through a third party and not Hyundai.

So the fact that they are stepping up and replacing this engine is a big testimant to the company.

I was pissed at first, and still don't like that my daughter is out of a car for two weeks, but they've gone above what they probably should have IMO.

What a pleasant surprise and props to Hyundai. Yet, here we are with Nissan - can't even get a poorly designed CSC replaced lol

Exactly why we replaced my wife's '06 V6 Sonata with a '17 2.0T Sport!!! Even kept the '06 in the fam. because of the confidence we have in it. '17 had 19k miles on it when purchased in 11/2019 and included a LIFETIME, yes LIFETIME power train warranty!!

Yes I have it in writing and no it's not from a worthless dealer. $17,200 out the door!
