I have to say, the more I see these, the more that i realize how "Fox News" is the ultimate oxymoron.

The USA is not only soaking up all global supply, but also using your defence procurement act to keep domestic production in the country. I don't blame you for the latter especially, although those plants were set up by companies to efficiently supply all of the Americas. By doing so, you are leaving your poor northern cousins in the lurch. But we'll survive. Just don't count on getting maple syrup and back bacon shipments from us any time soon!

In reality, 3M initiated a surge in PPE production back in January at the start of the epidemic in all of its plants worldwide. Bloomberg ran a story on this months ago. This was a plan devised after the SARS outbreak in 2003. They expanded capacity of N95 masks by bringing online all equipment including all idled lines and switch-overs where possible. Chinese plants were slow to come online because of their epidemic and also Lunar New Year, but others hit their marks quickly. That was intended to meet increased global demand. The two US production facilities normally make a combined 35 million masks a month. It is set to hit 50 million in the next few months. Your supply chain would be more than enough in most situations. Unless you want the government to invest in production facilities, you cannot have private enterprise at the ready to react to a once in a generation emergency of global scale! So, when an official who failed at his job by not having enough stocks available, criticizes a company that is doing what companies do, he's just trying to save his own arse!

Interesting.

I’m not sure whether it was the UK government funding it or not, but the Ex Nortel plant in Harlow Essex (incidentally where they invented fiber optics for data communications) had all their fiber manufacturing facilities mothballed in the event of an emergency so some production facilities of private enterprises have in the past been mothballed for this type of scenario

No I didn’t

Just tired of all the political point scoring that politicians are doing instead of banding together and fighting this thing.

We could say Trump had his head in the sand when this came along and now bitches whenever anyone criticises his methods and lies about other things. But what good would that do? It’s already happened? Will it change the vote at the next election? Doubtful.

I wasn’t singling put Americans btw? We in Britain are more alike with our brothers over the pond than many realise.... we just have bitching and moaning down to an art form now

What’s very worrying though is we have just been informed the testing is generating false positives as well as false negatives. Feels like we are pissing in the wind as to whether we are any the wiser as to what is going on.

Britain wasn’t even testing it’s health workers until very recently (testing was reserved for patients only)

Trump has not been perfect by any means. He has done some things right and some things wrong. Hence, the problem with trusting what China sent out. It lead his advisers/CDC astray in the beginning because the data was bunk. The problem with 3M was their distributors keep bumping Florida down the purchasing order because other places were paying cash. That's not right. The USA is not trying to buy all the mask stock up, just get what they need. 3M makes 1 million N95 masks a week.

Sure was. USA medical professionals were not being sold masks because someone walked up with cash and push their orders down the list. Distributors of 3M were doing this. They were also jacking up the price. I don't think anyone here minds sharing. The problem we have is other folks wanted it ALL first while we get nothing. Not happening.

Yeah, I went out last weekend to get some essentials, only to find a queue outside the local (small town) Wal-Mart. I refuse to stand in line to go into a Wal-Mart!

But when I went grocery shopping later, it was the same situation there. Tape marks at 6’, only letting 5 people into the store at a time, as 5 leave. Same tape marks up to the checkouts. Aisles marked one way. Cashiers separated by a plastic panel. Actually, it was well done, for the protection of store employees and customers. I don’t LIKE it, but I was impressed by the effort.

Really hoping that it will go back to normal soon. But not before we beat this thing!

What distributors do, I don’t know. But based on one interview with someone who apparently was asleep at the switch and now is complaining that he couldn’t himself jump the queue to get the supplies that he should have had in hand long before now, I remain unconvinced. Sounds like some American capitalists were doing the same thing to their fellow countrymen that people on this board are pissed off at China for. Ironic, isn’t it?

3M in the USA, though its two plants there that produce the N95 masks, have contracts to supply 3M Canada, which in turn has contracts to supply Canadian governments (health care up here is government run). And I can guarantee you that Canadian governments haven’t come with bribes - people have gone to jail up here for that. I cannot speak for other countries.

The interview turned me off right from the beginning when the anchor said “i want you to say what you told me before”, which is code for “do it just the way we rehearsed it”. It’s just not journalism. Was there an interview with a representative of 3M? Oh wait, yes there was...

Look, I have no beef against you, or the US. But the administration’s knee-jerk response has caused an uproar here. Detroit, which is poised to be the next centre for the outbreak, relies on Canadian nurses and doctors who cross the boarder every day. And Michigan will soon call for help the same way that New York did. Normally, Canada would be the first to respond. I think that you know that. But there is a cry here to send those people to Toronto and ignore what might be a humanitarian disaster right next door. Nobody really wants to see that.

But we can reverse engineer and start manufacturing CPAP ventilators in 100 hours. At least Boris took this crisis seriously.

Before you post with a put down. Ask yourself, how many of your fellow Americans are going to die because you couldn’t act fast enough? Why the was the Navy captain fired because he was worried about his crew? And just remember before you launch into another tirade. Most of the people who will die are the forgotten. The ones who cannot afford healthcare. At least our government and country’s population have not and will not forget the less privileged and why we will make sure any trade deal with the US does not include your healthcare companies trying to grab some of the NHS business. Our health and medical service will do just fine without you

You have such a high opinion of yourselves but forget much of what you claim credit for was actually developed outside of the US. Did you know the only American built car to win Le Mans was actually built in England? The drug that turned Pfizer into what it is today was developed in England. You don’t have to worry about shipping us medicines because the top 5 generics companies are either European or Indian with an Israeli company at the top. Speaking of Israel, Intel do much of their processor design there and the smartphone you are using probably has a British designed SoC architecture.

I’ll give you credit for one thing. The US has been great at pissing everyone else off. Obama and Bill Clinton tried to stem that but hey ho you have to live with it I suppose.

I know and get on with a lot of guys from the US, but have no time for the ones who have been brainwashed into thinking they are superior and have a sense of humour that makes the Germans look funny

Well she has had a bit of non Royal ginger in her a few times.

Of course he isn’t Charles’ his slapper of a Mum went round the block a few times and it was the galloping cad James Hewitt.

I appreciate the royal family as they bring tourism into Britain but don’t get why the rest of the world love them so much. Loved Diana so much

Harry and Megwad moved to Canada. Thinking that Canada will pay for their security. Canada said no. So they moved to Hollyweird. Expecting us to pick up the tab. Trump said no. Now I read that Charles will pay for security.

Well he’s a ******* mug

Sorry but I laugh. I love the royal family and what it does bring to Britain. But this is what I don’t get. Britain went to war with America over independence, but the US loves some members of the royal family more than Britain does. Diana appeared to be a goddess over there when in fact she was a manipulative slut. I just don’t get it.

You must realise because Meghan has or has had a bit of Black in her, she will never be accepted into the royal family. You were shocked when Obama got voted in. Britain is inherently racist, although most will deny it. They haven’t got up to date yet. My best friend who is Nigerian, she hates being called “coloured” but that’s what most Brits refer to black people.

Give the British establishment choice, they would probably be listening to David Allen Coe

We kissed and made up over that little spat a long time ago. We've fought side-by-side on many occasions since then.

All the folks I know care as much about the royal family as they do about the Kardashians - don't wish them any harm but really couldn't care less.

The only person here claiming the US has "high opinions" of themselves is you.

Nobody is denied Emergency Room access. Our health care system has flaws, mainly due to special interest and Obama Care.
Id rather have care in the US than the Socialized healthcare in the UK.

Stats as of today:

UK

Cases: 41903
Deaths: 4313
Recovered: 135
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/uk/

US

Cases: 311357
Deaths: 8452
Recovered: 14852
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

Which brings me to an earlier point, are you REALLY one of those 135 that has recovered from corona virus in the UK? Troll much?

I know and get on with a lot of guys from the US, but have no time for the ones who have been brainwashed into thinking they are superior and have a sense of humour that makes the Germans look funny

asht, while it's fine to have your opinion about anything and everything, in the event you want to express such opinions, you may want to do it respectfully. US, along with any nation in the world, has its share of issues (NO ONE is arguing this), but for you to flat out bash MY country like that is, at the very least, inappropriate.

I think it's time to register under a different username and start fresh.

ghostvette, has he made it onto the iggy list yet?

I always say that racism is taught. No one comes out of the womb hating someone because of their skin color. I think we’re breaking the chain but there will ALWAYS be racism.

You are probably right.

My father was in the British Army during the 60s. Racism and Homophobia was endemic back then and to be honest I was brought up that way.

But you don’t have to accept what you are taught from a young age. Keeping your eyes open you can teach yourself what is right or wrong. Many of my friends are from different ethnic backgrounds, Africa, India I even have a Chinese friend, but won’t be eating around his for a while

One of my best friends is a gay DJ, does a lot of his gigs in gay bars in London and Ive has some of the most fun nights out with him. But....

In the UK there is government advice to social distance yourself and stay at home whenever possible. It is great to see the workers in the supermarkets being diligent, disinfecting trolleys, baskets the floors and the shelves. And then you get the completely retarded shoppers in there, abusing the workers because the store has ran out of some things. I guess there is no cure for stupidity.

And I have said before that I’m big and ugly enough to admit when I am wrong. I’m not going to slate Donald Trump anymore. I watched his last press conference and it was clearly being delivered by a man who feels the weight of 300 million people on his shoulders. You could see he was very emotional. Being a nation’s leader can’t be easy at the best of times. The current world leaders probably never imagined that they would have to take charge of what is a global crisis. Not everyone is going to agree with their methods and as human beings, they aren’t infallible and will make mistakes on the way. Hopefully they will learn from them. I never thought I’d see a Conservative government adopting some socialist methods in my lifetime but the UK government is doing just that. Nationalising the Railways, writing off the private debt the NHS has built up.

On a serious note and this is not a slagging but a genuine question. We hear on the news here that people in the US who don’t have insurance in some states may not be treated? That is a bit Alien to us in the UK in some ways because everyone will get treated (sure some counties have better facilities than others - we call it post code lottery) the question is: would we be able to slow down the spread of the virus if everyone got treated whether they had insurance or not? This virus terrifies me, not for me (I don’t even know if I’ve had the virus now because it turns out the tests are flawed - too many false positives and negatives to be certain) but for my elderly mother and Uncle who are going stir crazy at the moment - she has finally learned to use Skype mind... and also my girlfriend who is a frontline NHS worker. I’m keeping her spirits up by handwriting her letters, like the ladies used to write to the gentlemen on the frontline 100 or so years ago. Hey someone has to keep the postal service going

Whether we agree with our governments’ policies and procedures... we have to take our hats off to all the medical professionals who are battling to protect us all.

Anyway, god bless you all and stay safe

My friend it might be true but I highly doubt it. You need to filter the things you read or hear about the news. Media networks make million dollars in feeding bad news.

In our hospital alone the most fortunate patient we keep are the one’s without insurance. We keep them as long as we can until we find a placement for them that would accept them.

PreCovid situation...We kept a homeless man in the hospital for more than a month fed him, bath him, change his sheets 2x daily.

We gave him brand new nike shoes because he has none.
The hospital bought him a bicycle so he has the ability to bike to go to buy his daily needs.

You see those good Godly deeds that people do everyday are not being reported at media. Too much fear has been planted all over the world!

But no one speak of the Good News...I ask you why?

Tell your family everything would be fine...Though times are hard we as people Thrive and succeed and that is the Spirit of everybody must have..Americans, Canadian, Brit, Asian, Slovacks etc.

That is the Spirit we all had fighting pandemics ..World wars..Tyranny...and we always win!

Im sounding like General Douglas McArthur! He is my forever hero in my book of Life!
