I miss the days of living 6/10ths of a mile from my workplace (but I do not miss living in an apartment building). Now it's almost a 60 mile round trip, which isn't bad except for how heavy Philly traffic gets.

I'll drive that any day of the week to stay out of an apartment. If I can't take a leak in my own backyard, the neighbors are too dang close.

I can relate to that. I get reminded all the time when my neck starts hurting. No pain meds for me. I just tough it out most of the time. Otherwise, I hit the Ibuprofen.

Fully agreed. I'm a big fan of having property (albeit not as much of a fan of mowing the lawn/raking the leaves/tree maintenance).

How's traffic in your area? I'd think that would be rough.

Piece of cake. Not too bad. I just have to deal with the crazies on the I-16 500 race track on the way home.

My daily commute is around 70 miles round trip. I'm behind the wheel for a little over 4 hours. :icon14:

Yup. Redando can tell you how bad traffic is here. One of the main reasons why I went with an auto transmission with the Z.

BettyZ 01-21-2020 11:16 AM

That's all some serious commutage. I work remote 3/4 days a week. So I commute from my bed to the crapper to my home office.

On the days I go into the office... it's a 14 minute round trip.

I used to do alot of remote work, but more money in being physically there. Closet Ive ever worked was about a mile... and I was NEVER on time, would take 3-4 hour lunches at home because if I was needed, I had my cell phone and could be at work in less than 5 minutes.

JLarson 01-21-2020 11:25 AM

Yeah my 60 miles is about 2 hours of commute time daily. The drive in tends to be a little shorter than the drive home.

My daily commute is, wait for it, zero miles. The last 20 years before I retired, my commute was 10 miles per day, that's why my 1999 eclipse has only 44000 miles on it.

Bunk is right about traffic here though. I only get on the freeway if I absolutely have to. A 30 mile commute will take you 2 hours. That's why my car gets flatbedded to Seb for tune. He's 34 miles from me.

Falconquey 01-21-2020 12:10 PM

Duuuuuudes (water bong sounds)... You guys work???

Rusty 01-21-2020 12:24 PM

I live in a small town 30 miles south of Pittsburgh. The area is a mix of urban, rural, farm, mountain. The town dates all the back to the late 1600's. I got a corner lot that is 80x120ft. Brick ranch, 2000 sqft main floor, 2000 sqft basement. Before I retired. My commute to the power plant was 18 miles, all back country roads. Took me 20 minutes, unless I get stuck behind a school bus. Work now is 12 miles, 2 lane highway, unless I want to take the 4 lane toll road. Either way takes me less then 20 minutes.

My commute is 10 minutes each way, the only time it's longer is on the days I decide to drive the Z. Gotta warm up all the fluids. :yum::yum:

The funny thing is that I can be almost anywhere in the KC Metro area in about 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the time of day. That being said, the I-435 loop during rush hour is really bad, but not near as bad as traffic in the ATL all the time. :owned:

I've hit rush hour on I70 going into KC a time or 3. Really wasn't that bad.

Hah. I got all yall beat.

i work 1.2 miles away from home.
even with going home every day for lunch my total commute time is under 20 mins, and under 5 miles.

I get up at 730 and roll into work by 8 am every day.

Yeah I never could feel much of a difference between KC 'rush hour' and regular traffic.. and that's in a good way.

As opposed to Chicago, where 90/94 is standing still at 2am.

There's a bridge on westbound I70 through KC that's closed, so you would have to go north on I35 to 435 or north on I29 to 435 to get around it. It's kind of a challenge getting out of downtown after a concert, so we just hang out at one of the bars near the venue for dessert, then head home.

We hit that detour last summer going to Denver. That added some time to the trip.

Trying to decide how far to go tearing apart the front end of the Z to save on labor costs. Considering buying a manifold and vacuum pump for the AC refrigerant. Not sure it's worth it though...
