No way in hell would I sign up for crap like that. No insurance company is going to be spying on me in that way.

The way I see it. More insurance companies will start doing this. With some, it could be mandatory.

They give you a 5% discount regardless of how you drive. The funny thing is even with all that I'm still sitting on a 9% discount right now.

Gotta take care of them; as they will dull like other bits when abused :ugh2:
Some of the best cutting ones are made of carbide...now they literally drill about anything  :icon14:

yep, even carbide can be no match for the abrasiveness of inconel. I hated machining that crap. Hastelloy X was another that can **** right off. Fun fact, the armor that surrounds the CPU in the black boxes of airplanes is made from solid blocks of inconel. When we machined them we used ceramic with no coolant (obviously) and spun the cutters at 18K rpm. Molten chips of inconel flying puts on a good show.
This video is mild. We threw steady streams of chips that actually melted the plastic safety windows on the machine lol.

Yup! They're not penalizing anyone (yet) bc they want as many people as possible to participate so as to build a coherent data collection.

I'm sure someone will come up with a way to clone your ECU (so the VIN matches w insurance records) and wire the board to a OBDII port.. and to a nice plug for your garage outlet. "Yup, that car sits in the garage all day, e'ery day."

I've got several friends who just screw with them. Only plug it in on AutoX days lol. No penalty yet. I'll check and see if they have a readout like yours. It would probably be like 40 miles driven, 550 hard acceleration events, 400 hard braking events :rofl2:

I have one in the truck. Think I’m currently at 18%. BTW, they will take the 5% off your discount before they send you the refund.

JARblue 08-21-2019 08:51 PM

Those discounts don't mean shìt. The insurance companies just adjust premiums to accommodate the discounts. I've been given 50% discount before lol. It was a $10/month savings over my previous 15% discount

SafeTrack one doesn’t work that way. You have to drive it 15 miles to activate it, it pings a cell tower to report and you have to drive it weekly.

So then all you have to do is hijack the signal and spoof GPS locations. Piece of cake.

madwi 08-21-2019 08:55 PM

maybe EW can hook us up with a Stingray unit...

How would you go about faking driving data? It measures braking and acceleration.

lol software... anyone sophisticated enough to clone the ecu and spoof gps locations is savvy enough to write a program to either randomize data input based on a pre-determined route or have pre-determined data input ready to go. Easiest way is probably just to record data for a few routes in real life and then clone the data with minor random variations in the spoofed data.

JARblue 08-21-2019 09:07 PM

Hell, I bet someone could even have real-time traffic input for whatever route is used that the program adjusts for to keep the data realistic.

Had drinks with a girl on Sunday. She hardly said a word unless it was to answer a question I asked. But she gave me a full 1.5 hours before saying she was having a great time but had to leave. I didn't expect anything but asked her to dinner anyway. She literally just texted me back lol. So she is at least interested in a free meal :icon17:

You know what they say... lure 'em in with the free meal, then seal the deal with an offer of lifetime housing assistance and 18 years non-court ordered child support.

You know how to change a flat tire too. And oil and stuff. Don't forget to throw that in!

Welding Inconel wasn't bad. Machining it is another story. Used to machine Inconel 625 which was worse than inconel 62. That was like machining bubble gum. Soft and chewy.
