How do I go about boring out the rusted off screws that were snapped off of the undershroud for the Versa this weekend?

Probably easier to just sell the car :p

You have a gate valve like that one in the photo? Those things are notorious for failing :eekdance:

I use one of these. Haven't had any issues on 3 cars yet.

lol I assumed it was a Fumoto valve ... yeah those things are pretty nice. But it's not too difficult to do a clean oil change without a valve. One just needs a little practice using the right methods.

The key is the angle of the car on jackstands, drain plug removal method, and any relevant mods affecting the drain flow (like aftermarket undershroud opening or the Arc cooling fins I installed on the bottom of my oil pan). I routinely change my oil when it's hot - no gloves and no issues with spills or messes if done right.

Normally it's the same for me. But the ease of access and not having to fight with an overly tight bolt just makes me smile. After having the worst oil change of my life on Saturday, those things are a godsend.

I was wondering why the drain plug was so damn tight the last oil change I did ... it was cause I let the dealer do the previous oil change while the car was in for warranty work :shakes head:

If they screw into the subframe, I'd just leave the shroud off. Between limited access under the car, and possibly your limited tool selection, it's not worth the headache of trying to drill out rusted screws. :ugh2:

If they are speed nuts, (3/8" wide pieces of metal that fasten over a plastic panel) pry the old ones off, go to the parts store, get new ones and screws and reinstall.... with some anti-seize.

I'l have to double check, but they sound like the latter. The screws that snapped are screwed into small metal brackets on the other side when the shroud goes on. I highly doubt the shroud is doing anything important anyways. If she hits something that high in the Versa, the shroud won't protect the oil pan anyways.

Running ALOT cooler than the 3930k that it replaced! Glad I went with the 1700 instead of 1700X (lower TDP)

I haven't been able to bog it down at all. Tried loading up 8x windows 7 VMs and had games running on 4 of them and it didn't lag at all

Leingod 05-01-2017 09:42 AM

What do we think? Found an old thread and saw these looked sharp. No way am I paying $300+ for EvoR junk. Fly1 is on hold and I don't like how low the aerojacket ones are.

We usually get 3-5 a year. Supposedly with massive hail and damaging winds. I don't even remember us ever getting hail and the last "tornado" we had was in 2007. Barely registered F1 and I think knocked over a few trees.

eastwest2300 05-01-2017 02:29 PM
